DefinitionShort: an opening or hole in the ground, either large as in {S:05801103800032} or relatively small as in {S:05900301100014}
Glosses: ['hole', 'opening']
Comments: Holes would differ from caves ({S:05801103800032}) in that holes would be vertical openings into the ground, while caves would be more or less horizontal openings into cliffs or sides of hills. In {S:05900301100014} it may be quite unnecessary, and in fact confusing, to try to translate ὀπῆς, since ἐκ τῆς αὐτῆς ὀπῆς ‘from the same opening’ would seem to be redundant with ἡ πηγή ‘spring,’ since a spring would presumably only flow from a hole or opening in the ground.
