Open English Translation (OET)

Hebrew wordlink #280053

← לוֹ ⌂ → Ecc 5 ║ ═

Key: khaki:verbs.
Bold in each verse marks the word or words linked to that example’s source word, where an alignment is available.
Note: Automatic aligning of the OET-RV to the LV is done by some temporary software, hence the RV alignments are incomplete (and may occasionally be wrong). An unbolded RV line may have no alignment for this word. See the OET key for other text colours and marks.

OET-LV: 17  HERE that_which I I_have_seen to_be_good that_which is_beautiful is_to_eat and_to_drink and_to_see good in_all toil_of_his which_someone_will_toil under the_sun the_number_of the_days_of his which he_has_given to_him/it the_ʼElohīm if/because it portion_of_is_his. (ECC 5:17)

OET-RV: 18 Listen, this is what I myself have discovered to be good:
 ⇔ It’s good for a person to eat and drink
 ⇔ and to see benefit in all the hard work that they’ll do in this world
 ⇔ during the number of the days of their life that God has given that person,
 ⇔ because that’s their allocation in life. (ECC 5:18)

Note: These word pages enable you to click through to the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (OSHB) that the Open English Translation Old Testament is translated from. The OSHB is based on the Westminster Leningrad Codex (WLC). (We are still searching for a digitized facsimile of the Leningradensis manuscript that we can easily link to. See this list and this archive for now.) This is all part of the commitment of the Open English Translation team to be transparent about all levels of the Bible translation process right back to the original manuscripts.

The word form ‘לוֹ’ (Morphology=R PoS=preposition
 Morphology=Sp3ms PoS=pronominal_suffix Person=third Gender=masculine Number=singular)
is always and only glossed as ‘to_him / it’.

The various word forms of the root word (lemma) ‘Lemmas=‘לְ’, ‘הוּא’’ have only one gloss: ‘to=him/it’.
