καῦμα

Strong’s: G2738

Associated OET lemmas: καῦμα

Form 1

Inflections: καῦμα; -τος

Related lemmas: καίω

Sense 1: heat, scorching heat

Semantic entry: 14.67

Semantic domains: Physical Events and States

Subdomains: Burning

Definition: heat sufficiently intense to cause suffering or burning

Notes: In some languages the effect of heat may be described simply as ‘heat will not scorch them’ or ‘they will not suffer because of heat’ (RV REV 7:16 · LV REV 7:16 · Read together REV 7:16). Such expressions, however, may be ambiguous because they might mean that the individuals involved would be able to easily withstand the heat. The meaning of the biblical passage, however, is that there would be no heat to cause them harm.
