Notes: λιμήν may be rendered in some languages by a descriptive phrase, ‘a place where ships are safe from the storm’ or ‘a place where ships are never damaged’ or ‘a place where ships may stay.’ In OET ACT 27:12 it is difficult to know whether the reference of λιμήν is to the harbor as a convenient place for the ships to stay during the winter, or to the port (that is to say, the town at the harbor) as a convenient place for people to stay during the winter. Some languages make a clear distinction between the area where ships stay and where people may stay waiting to continue their voyage.
