Open English Translation (OET)

Hebrew wordlink #140727

← לָּנוּ ⌂ → 1 Sam 29 ║ ═

Key: khaki:verbs.
Bold in each verse marks the word or words linked to that example’s source word, where an alignment is available.
Note: Automatic aligning of the OET-RV to the LV is done by some temporary software, hence the RV alignments are incomplete (and may occasionally be wrong). An unbolded RV line may have no alignment for this word. See the OET key for other text colours and marks.

OET-LV: 4 and_they_were_angry on/upon/above_him/it the_commanders_of the_Fəlishtiy and_they_said to_him/it the_commanders_of the_Fəlishtiy send_back DOM the_man so_that_he_may_return to place_of_his where you_assigned_him there and_not he_will_go_down with_us in_battle and_not he_will_become to/for_ourselves (into)_an_adversary in_battle and_how this_one will_he_make_himself_acceptable to master(s)_of_his am_not by_the_heads_of the_men the_those. OET-RV: 4 But the Philistine commanders were furious at him and told him, “Send that man back to whatever place you’ve given him! There’s no way he’s joining us in the battle! What if he turned against us during the fight? What better way could he have to win back his master’s favour than by killing our men? (SA1 29:4)

Note: These word pages enable you to click through to the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (OSHB) that the Open English Translation Old Testament is translated from. The OSHB is based on the Westminster Leningrad Codex (WLC). (We are still searching for a digitized facsimile of the Leningradensis manuscript that we can easily link to. See this list and this archive for now.) This is all part of the commitment of the Open English Translation team to be transparent about all levels of the Bible translation process right back to the original manuscripts.

The word form ‘לָּנוּ’ (Morphology=R PoS=preposition
 Morphology=Sp1cp PoS=pronominal_suffix Person=first Gender=common Number=plural)
is always and only glossed as ‘to / for_ourselves’.

The various word forms of the root word (lemma) ‘Lemmas=‘לְ’, ‘הוּא’’ have only one gloss: ‘to/for=ourselves’.
