AICNT 1TIM Chapter 3

TIM 3 ©

The word is trustworthy. If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, they desire a noble task. 2Therefore, an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3not given to drunkenness, not violent, [[not greedy for gain]][fn] but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.

They must manage their own household well, with all dignity keeping their children submissive

But if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for the church of God? 6Not a recent convert, lest they become conceited and fall into the condemnation of the devil.

Moreover, one must also have a good reputation with those outside, so as not to fall into disgrace and the snare of the devil.

Likewise, deacons should be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain, 9holding the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience.

And let these also first be tested, then let them serve, being without accusation.

Likewise, women should be dignified, not slanderous, sober-minded, faithful in all things.

Deacons must be husbands of one wife, managing their children and their own households well.

For those who have served well as deacons acquire a good standing for themselves and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.

I am writing these things to you, hoping to come to you soon; 15but if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the house of God, which is the assembly of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth.

And without a doubt, the mystery of godliness is great: {who}[fn] was revealed in the flesh, was justified in the spirit, was seen by angels, was proclaimed among the nations, was believed in the world, was taken up in glory.
