Abram and Lot Go Separate Ways

Abram and Lot Go Separate Ways

13:1-13

13Then Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and everything that belonged to him, and Lot with him, to the Negev. 2And Abram was very wealthy in livestock, in silver, and in gold. 3Then he went on his journeys from the Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tents had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, 4to the place of the altar that he had made there at first, and there Abram called on the name of Yahweh.

5Now Lot, who was traveling with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents. 6But the land could not support them while they stayed together, because their possessions were great so that they were not able to stay together. 7Then there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. And the Canaanites and the Perizzites were living in the land then.

8So Abram said to Lot, “Please do not let there be strife between me and you, or between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, because we are men, brothers. 9Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me. If you go to the left, then I will go right, or if you go to the right, then I will go left.”

10Then Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of the Jordan as you go toward Zoar, that all of it was well-watered, like Yahweh’s garden, like the land of Egypt, before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. 11So Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Jordan, and Lot traveled to the east, and they separated from each other. 12Abram settled in the land of Canaan, and Lot settled in the cities of the plain and moved his tents as far as Sodom. 13Now the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against Yahweh.
