σαγήνη

Strong’s: G4522

Associated OET lemmas: σαγήνη

Form 1

Part of speech: noun, f.

Inflections: σαγήνη; -ης

Sense 1: seine net

Semantic entry: 6.13

Semantic domains: Artifacts

Subdomains: Instruments Used in Fishing

Definition: a long seine net used in fishing

Notes: The σαγήνη was a long net hanging vertically in the water with floats at the upper edge and weights at the lower. It was drawn in by men working in boats or from shore. In OET MAT 13:47 the actual form of the net is not so important. What is significant is that the net was sufficiently large to catch a large number of different kinds of fish.
