BARSABAS*, BARSABBAS

Biblical surname. Barsabas (KJB) means “son of Saba” in Aramaic. Barsabbas, “son of the Sabbath,” is the preferred spelling in modern translations. Two people in the NT have this surname: Joseph Barsabbas and Judas Barsabbas (Acts 1:23; 15:22). See Joseph #12; Judas #6.
