JABEZ (Person)

Member of Judah’s tribe who was noted for his godliness. He prayed for God’s protection, and his prayer was answered (1 Chr 4:9-10).

9 Yaebets was more respected than his brothers. His mother had named him Yaebets (which sounds like the word meaning ‘pain’), saying, “It’s because I bore him in pain.”

10 Yaebets called out to Yisrael’s (Israel) god, saying, “Oh, please give me a real blessing, and help me and enlarge my territory, and don’t do anything to harm me, so that I won’t be in pain.” And God did what Yaebets requested.
