Open English Translation (OET)

Hebrew wordlink #118115

← וְלֹא ⌂ → Jdg 11 ║ ═

Key: khaki:verbs.
Bold in each verse marks the word or words linked to that example’s source word, where an alignment is available.
Note: Automatic aligning of the OET-RV to the LV is done by some temporary software, hence the RV alignments are incomplete (and may occasionally be wrong). An unbolded RV line may have no alignment for this word. See the OET key for other text colours and marks.

OET-LV: 17 And_ Yisrāʼēl/(Israel) _it_sent messengers to the_king_of ʼEdōm to_say let_me_pass please in_land_of_your and_not the_king_of ʼEdōm he_listened and_also to the_king_of Mōʼāⱱ it_sent and_not he_was_willing and_ Yisrāʼēl/(Israel) _he/it_sat_down//remained//lived at_Qādēsh. (JDG 11:17)

OET-RV: 17 When Yisrael (Israel) sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, ‘Please may we pass through your land,’ the king of Edom wouldn’t listen. Yisrael likewise sent to the king of Moab, but he wasn’t willing either, so Yisrael stayed at Kadesh. (JDG 11:17)

Note: These word pages enable you to click through to the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (OSHB) that the Open English Translation Old Testament is translated from. The OSHB is based on the Westminster Leningrad Codex (WLC). (We are still searching for a digitized facsimile of the Leningradensis manuscript that we can easily link to. See this list and this archive for now.) This is all part of the commitment of the Open English Translation team to be transparent about all levels of the Bible translation process right back to the original manuscripts.

The word form ‘וְלֹא’ (Morphology=C PoS=conjunction
 Morphology=Tn PoS=negative_particle)
is always and only glossed as ‘and_not’.

The various word forms of the root word (lemma) ‘Lemmas=‘וְ’, ‘לֹא’’ have only one gloss: ‘and=not’.
