Open English Translation (OET)

Hebrew wordlink #308227

← וְאֶבְכֶּה ⌂ → Jer 8 ║ ═

Key: khaki:verbs.
Bold in each verse marks the word or words linked to that example’s source word, where an alignment is available.
Note: Automatic aligning of the OET-RV to the LV is done by some temporary software, hence the RV alignments are incomplete (and may occasionally be wrong). An unbolded RV line may have no alignment for this word. See the OET key for other text colours and marks.

OET-LV: 23  who will_he_give my_head was_water and_eye_of_my was_a_fountain_of tear[s] and_I_will_bewail by_day and_night DOM those_slain_of the_daughter_of my_people_of_my. (JER 8:23)

OET-RV: 9 If only my head was water, and my eyes were a fountain of tears,
 ⇔ → then I’d weep day and night for my people’s slain daughter. (JER 9:1)

Note: These word pages enable you to click through to the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (OSHB) that the Open English Translation Old Testament is translated from. The OSHB is based on the Westminster Leningrad Codex (WLC). (We are still searching for a digitized facsimile of the Leningradensis manuscript that we can easily link to. See this list and this archive for now.) This is all part of the commitment of the Open English Translation team to be transparent about all levels of the Bible translation process right back to the original manuscripts.

The word form ‘וְאֶבְכֶּה’ (Morphology=C PoS=conjunction
 Morphology=Vqh1cs PoS=qal_verb Type=cohortative Person=first Gender=common Number=singular)
is always and only glossed as ‘and, I_will_bewail’.

The various word forms of the root word (lemma) ‘Lemmas=‘וְ’, ‘בָּכָה’’ have 2 different glosses: ‘and,I_will_bewail’, ‘and,so_that_I_may_weep’.
