Open English Translation (OET)

Hebrew wordlink #168409

← לָהֶם ⌂ → 1 Ki 18 ║ ═

Key: khaki:verbs.
Bold in each verse marks the word or words linked to that example’s source word, where an alignment is available.
Note: Automatic aligning of the OET-RV to the LV is done by some temporary software, hence the RV alignments are incomplete (and may occasionally be wrong). An unbolded RV line may have no alignment for this word. See the OET key for other text colours and marks.

OET-LV: 26 And_they_took DOM the_young_bull which someone_gave to/for_them and_they_prepared_it and_they_called on_the_name_of (the)_Baˊal from_the_morning and_unto the_noontide(s) to_say Oh_Baˊal answer_us and_there_was_not a_voice and_there_was_not one_who_answered and_they_limped_around at the_altar which he_had_made. (KI1 18:26)

OET-RV: 26 So they took the bull he gave them and prepared it all, and then they called out to Baal from morning until midday, shouting, “Baal, answer us!” But they didn’t hear any voice and got no answer. Then they hopped around the altar they’d made. (KI1 18:26)

Note: These word pages enable you to click through to the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (OSHB) that the Open English Translation Old Testament is translated from. The OSHB is based on the Westminster Leningrad Codex (WLC). (We are still searching for a digitized facsimile of the Leningradensis manuscript that we can easily link to. See this list and this archive for now.) This is all part of the commitment of the Open English Translation team to be transparent about all levels of the Bible translation process right back to the original manuscripts.

The word form ‘לָהֶם’ (Morphology=R PoS=preposition
 Morphology=Sp3mp PoS=pronominal_suffix Person=third Gender=masculine Number=plural)
is always and only glossed as ‘to / for_them’.

The various word forms of the root word (lemma) ‘Lemmas=‘לְ’, ‘הוּא’’ have only one gloss: ‘to/for=them’.
