Open English Translation (OET)

Hebrew wordlink #167991

← וְאֶל ⌂ → 1 Ki 18 ║ ═

Key: khaki:verbs.
Bold in each verse marks the word or words linked to that example’s source word, where an alignment is available.
Note: Automatic aligning of the OET-RV to the LV is done by some temporary software, hence the RV alignments are incomplete (and may occasionally be wrong). An unbolded RV line may have no alignment for this word. See the OET key for other text colours and marks.

OET-LV: 5 And_ ʼAḩʼāⱱ _he/it_said to ˊOⱱadyāh go on_the_earth to all_of the_springs_of the_waters and_near/to all_of the_wadis perhaps we_will_find grass and_we_will_preserve_alive horse and_mule and_not we_will_cut_off any_of_the_livestock. (KI1 18:5)

OET-RV: 5 King Ahav told Ovadyah, “We’ll go across the country to all the springs and all the valleys that water sometimes flows in. Perhaps we’ll find some grass so we can keep a horse or a mule or two alive and not lose our breeding stock.” (KI1 18:5)

Note: These word pages enable you to click through to the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (OSHB) that the Open English Translation Old Testament is translated from. The OSHB is based on the Westminster Leningrad Codex (WLC). (We are still searching for a digitized facsimile of the Leningradensis manuscript that we can easily link to. See this list and this archive for now.) This is all part of the commitment of the Open English Translation team to be transparent about all levels of the Bible translation process right back to the original manuscripts.

The word form ‘וְאֶל’ (Morphology=C PoS=conjunction
 Morphology=R PoS=preposition)
is always and only glossed as ‘and_near / to’.

The various word forms of the root word (lemma) ‘Lemmas=‘וְ’, ‘אֶל’’ have only one gloss: ‘and=near/to’.
