Open English Translation (OET)

Hebrew wordlink #374918

← דָּמָם ⌂ → Zep 1 ║ ═

Key: khaki:verbs.
Bold in each verse marks the word or words linked to that example’s source word, where an alignment is available.
Note: Automatic aligning of the OET-RV to the LV is done by some temporary software, hence the RV alignments are incomplete (and may occasionally be wrong). An unbolded RV line may have no alignment for this word. See the OET key for other text colours and marks.

OET-LV: 17 And_I_will_cause_distress to_humankind and_they_will_walk like_(the)_people if/because to/for_YHWH they_have_sinned and_ blood_of_their _it_will_be_poured_out like_dust and_bowel[s]_of_their like_dung(s). (ZEP 1:17)

OET-RV:  ⇔  17 I’ll bring distress to the people,
 ⇔ and they’ll walk slowly as if they were blind,
 ⇔ because they’ve sinned against Yahweh.
 ⇔ Their blood will be poured out like dust,
 ⇔ ≈ and their innards like dung. (ZEP 1:17)

Note: These word pages enable you to click through to the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (OSHB) that the Open English Translation Old Testament is translated from. The OSHB is based on the Westminster Leningrad Codex (WLC). (We are still searching for a digitized facsimile of the Leningradensis manuscript that we can easily link to. See this list and this archive for now.) This is all part of the commitment of the Open English Translation team to be transparent about all levels of the Bible translation process right back to the original manuscripts.

The word form ‘דָּמָם’ (Morphology=Ncmsc PoS=common_noun Gender=masculine Number=singular State=construct
 Morphology=Sp3mp PoS=pronominal_suffix Person=third Gender=masculine Number=plural)
is always and only glossed as ‘blood_of, their’.

The various word forms of the root word (lemma) ‘Lemmas=‘דָּם’, ‘הוּא’’ have 2 different glosses: ‘blood_of,their’, ‘blood_of,their_own’.
