Open English Translation (OET)

Hebrew wordlink #292424

← לַחְתּוֹת ⌂ → Isa 30 ║ ═

Key: khaki:verbs.
Bold in each verse marks the word or words linked to that example’s source word, where an alignment is available.
Note: Automatic aligning of the OET-RV to the LV is done by some temporary software, hence the RV alignments are incomplete (and may occasionally be wrong). An unbolded RV line may have no alignment for this word. See the OET key for other text colours and marks.

OET-LV: 14 And_someone_will_break_it like_the_breaking_of a_jar potters crushed which_not anyone_will_spare and_not it_will_be_found among_fragment[s]_of_its a_potsherd to_snatch_up fire from_a_fireplace and_to_draw water from_a_cistern. (ISA 30:14)

OET-RV: 14 It’ll be like the smashing of a clay jar—completely shattered.
 ⇔ Among the fragments, a person wouldn’t be able to find a piece big enough to pick up a hot coal from the fire,
 ⇔ ≈ or to dip some water out of a cistern to drink.” (ISA 30:14)

Note: These word pages enable you to click through to the Open Scriptures Hebrew Bible (OSHB) that the Open English Translation Old Testament is translated from. The OSHB is based on the Westminster Leningrad Codex (WLC). (We are still searching for a digitized facsimile of the Leningradensis manuscript that we can easily link to. See this list and this archive for now.) This is all part of the commitment of the Open English Translation team to be transparent about all levels of the Bible translation process right back to the original manuscripts.

The word form ‘לַחְתּוֹת’ (Morphology=R PoS=preposition
 Morphology=Vqc PoS=qal_verb Type=infinitive_construct)
is always and only glossed as ‘to, snatch_up’.

The various word forms of the root word (lemma) ‘Lemmas=‘לְ’, ‘חָתָה’’ have only one gloss: ‘to,snatch_up’.
