Sanctuary and Temple

Sanctuary and Temple

41And he brought me to the temple sanctuary,[fn] and he measured the pilasters, six cubits[fn] wide on each side;[fn]this was the width of the tent.[fn] 2And the width of the doorway was ten cubits,[fn] and the sidewall of the doorwaywas five cubits on each side,[fn] and he measured its[fn] lengthas forty cubits,[fn] andits width was twenty cubits.[fn] 3And he went into the inner room, and he measured the pilaster of the doorway as two cubits[fn] and the doorwayas six cubits[fn] and the width of the doorway seven cubits.[fn] 4And he measured its length as twenty cubits[fn] andits width as twenty cubits to the front of the temple, and he said to me, “This is the most holy place.[fn]

5And he measured the wall of the temple as six cubits,[fn] and the width of the side roomas four cubits[fn]all along the outside wall for the temple all around the wall.[fn] 6And the side rooms were side by side[fn]in three stories and a total of thirty rooms,[fn] andthere were offsets[fn] in the wall, whichwas for the temple for the side rooms, all the way around[fn] to be supports, andso they were not supports extending into the wall of the temple. 7And each level widened, and it went around[fn]upward[fn] to the side rooms for the structure that surrounds[fn] the templeupward[fn]all the way around,[fn] thereforethe width increased to the temple upward,[fn] and thus the lowerlevel goes up to the upper level by means of the middle story.

8And I saw for the temple a platform all the way around[fn] the foundations of the side rooms;it was the length of a full reed, six cubits long.[fn] 9The width of the outside wall, which was for the side room to the outside, was five cubits,[fn] anda space that was set between the side rooms, which was for the temple 10and between the chambers was the width of twenty cubits[fn] all around the temple, all the way around[fn]it. 11And the doorway of the side room faced[fn] the open area; one doorwayfaced[fn]the north,[fn] and one doorwaywas to the south, and the width of the place of the open area was five cubits[fn] all around.[fn] 12And the building that faced[fn] the courtyardwas toward the west,[fn]and its width was seventy cubits,[fn] and the wall of the buildingwas five cubits[fn] wideall the way around,[fn] and its lengthwas ninety cubits.[fn] 13And he measured the temple, and its length was a hundred cubits,[fn] and the courtyard and the building and its walls, their length was a hundred cubits.[fn] 14And the width of the front of the temple and the courtyard to the east was a hundred cubits.[fn] 15And he measured the length of the building facing the courtyard[fn]at the rear[fn] and its galleries,a hundred cubits[fn] on each side,[fn] andalso the temple, the court, and the porticos of the courtyard, 16the thresholds and the framed windows and the galleries around the three of them. Before the threshold was a covering of wood all around,[fn] andfrom the ground up to the windows, and all around the windows, they were covered. 17Above[fn] the doorway and up to the inner temple[fn] and on the outside, and on all of the wallall the way around[fn] in the inner and in the outerareas were patterns,[fn] 18and it was made of cherubim and palm tree images; a palm tree image between cherub and cherub, and the cherub had two faces.[fn] 19And the face of a human was toward[fn] the palm tree imageon the one side,[fn] andthe face of a fierce strong lion faced[fn] the palm tree imageon the other side;[fn]this work was executed[fn] for the entire templeall the way around.[fn] 20From the ground up to above[fn] the doorway,[fn] the cherubim and the palm tree imageswere made,[fn] andalso the outer wall of the temple.

21As far as the temple is concerned its doorframe was squared, and before[fn] the sanctuarywas the appearance as it were the appearance of 22a wooden altar[fn]that was three cubits[fn] high, and its lengthwas two cubits,[fn] and its corners[fn] for it and its length and its wallswere of wood. And he spoke to me, “This is the table that is before[fn] Yahweh.” 23And the two doors were for the temple and for the sanctuary. 24And two leaves[fn] of a doorwere for each of the doors, two hinged leaves of a door: two were for the first door, and two leaves of a door were for the other door. 25And cherubim were made[fn] on them, that is, on the doors of the temple and palm tree images likethe ones prepared for the walls;[fn] andan overhang of wood was on the surface of the porticos on the outside. 26And narrow windows and palm tree images were on either side,[fn]and on the side walls of the portico, and the side rooms of the temple and their[fn] overhang.
