A Royal Official’s Son Is Healed

A Royal Official’s Son Is Healed

46Now he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And there was at Capernaum a certain royal official whose son was sick. 47This man, when he[fn] heard that Jesus had come from Judea into Galilee, went to him and asked that he come down and heal his son, for he was about to die. 48So Jesus said to him, “Unless you people[fn] see signs and wonders, you will never believe!” 49The royal official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!” 50Jesus said to him, “Go, your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he departed.

51Now as[fn] he was going down, his slaves met him, saying that his child was alive. 52So he inquired from them the hour at which he had gotten better. Then they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” 53So the father knew that it was that[fn] same hour at which Jesus said to him, “Your son will live,” and he himself believed, and his whole household. 54Now this is again a second sign Jesus performed when he[fn] came from Judea into Galilee.

?:? *Here “people” is supplied in the translation because the Greek verb (“see”) is plural

?:? *Here “as” is supplied as a component of the temporal genitive absolute participle (“was going down”)

?:? Some manuscripts have “that it was at that same hour”
