Literal Version

6:27 Loving the unlovely

(Mat. 5:38-48)

27But I’ll tell all of you who’re listening: Love your enemies and be kind to those who hate you. 28Give a blessing to those who curse you and pray for those who mistreat you all. 29When someone slaps you on the face, offer them the other side, and when someone forces you to hand over your coat, don’t resist if they want your shirt as well. 30Give to everyone who asks you for something, and when someone takes your stuff, don’t go demanding it back. 31[ref]However you’d all like people to treat you, that’s how you should be treating them.

32And if you only love those who love you, how good is that? Even those who disobey God love those who love them. 33If you only do good things to people who’re good to you, how good is that? Even those who disobey God do that. 34And if you only lend money to people that you’re expecting to repay you, how good is that? Even those who disobey God lend to others like them, knowing they’ll get their money back. 35Instead, you all should love your enemies and do good and lend out even when you expect to get nothing back. Then your reward will be large and you’ll all be sons of the highest God because he is good to ungrateful and evil people. 36You should be compassionate towards others, because your father is compassionate.

27But I_am_saying to_you_all to_the ones hearing, be_loving the enemies of_you_all, be_doing well to_the ones hating you_all, 28be_blessing the ones cursing you_all, be_praying for the ones mistreating you_all.
29To_the one striking you on the cheek, be_bringing_about also the other, and from the one taking_away the the_coat of_you, also you_may_ not _forbid the tunic.
30Be_giving to_everyone requesting you, and be_ not _demanding_back it from the one taking_away the your things.
31And as you_all_are_wanting that the people may_be_doing to_you_all, be_doing likewise to_them.
32And if you_all_are_loving the ones loving you_all, what grace it_is to_you_all?
For/Because even the sinners are_loving the ones loving them.
33For/Because also if you_all_may_be_doing_good the ones doing_good to_you_all, what grace is_it to_you_all?
Even the sinners are_doing the same.
34And if you_all_may_lend from whom you_all_are_hoping to_receive, what grace to_you_all it_is?
Even sinners are_lending to_sinners, in_order_that they_may_receive_back the same amounts.
35However be_loving the enemies of_you_all, and be_doing_good, and be_lending expecting_ nothing _back, and the reward of_you_all will_be great, and you_all_will_be sons of_the_highest, because he is good to the ungrateful and evil.
36Be_becoming compassionate, as the father of_you_all is compassionate.
