4:1 Yeshua is tested by the devil

(Mark 1:12-13, Mat. 4:1-11)

4Then Yeshua, full of the holy spirit, returned from the Yordan region and was led into the wilderness by the spirit 2where he was tested by the devil for forty days. He didn’t eat anything during that time, and was hungry at the end.

3So the devil told him, “If you’re God’s son, just turn this stone into bread.”

4[ref]It’s been written,Yeshua replied, “that people don’t live just on food.

5Then the devil brought him up to a high point and in just a moment of time, showed him the vista of all the kingdoms of the world, 6and he said, “I’ll give you this entire domain and the status of these kingdoms because it’s been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want, 7so just bow down in front of me and it’ll all be yours.”

8[ref]It’s been written,Yeshua answered, “that we should only bow down to Yahweh our God and only serve him.

9Then the devil led him to Yerusalem and they stood on the highest part of the temple, where he told him, “If you’re God’s son, throw yourself down from here, 10[ref]because it’s written that God will command his messengers to guard you 11and they will carry you in their hands, so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.”

12[ref]It’s been written,Yeshua responded, “that we shouldn’t test Yahweh our God.

13So after completing every temptation, the devil withdrew from him for a time.

4And Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) full of_the_ holy _spirit, returned from the Yordanaʸs/(Yarəddēn), and was_being_led by the spirit in the wilderness, 2being_tempted forty days by the devil.
And he_ not _ate nothing in the those days, and them having_been_completed, he_hungered.
3And the devil said to_him:
If you_are the_son of_ the _god, say the to_ this _stone that it_may_become bread.
4And the Yaʸsous answered to him:
It_has_been_written, that the person only Not on bread will_be_living.
5And having_brought_ him _up he_showed to_him all the kingdoms of_the inhabited_world in a_moment of_time.
6And the devil said to_him:
I_will_be_giving to_you the all this domain and the glory of_them, because has_been_given_over to_me and I_am_giving it to_whom if I_may_be_wanting.
7Therefore if you you_may_prostrate before me, everyone will_be of_you.
8And the Yaʸsous answering said to_him:
It_has_been_written, you_will_be_prostrating Before_the_master the god of_you and only unto_him you_will_be_serving.
9And he_led him to Hierousalaʸm/(Yərūshālayim), and stood on the pinnacle of_the temple, and he_said to_him:
If you_are the_son of_ the _god, throw yourself down from_here, 10for/because it_has_been_written, that he_will_be_commanding To_the messengers of_him concerning you, which to_guard you, 11and, that they_will_be_carrying you In ^their_hands, lest you_may_strike the foot of_you against a_stone.
12And answering the Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) said to_him, that It_has_been_said:
You will_ not _be_testing the_master the god of_you.
13And having_completed every temptation, the devil withdrew from him until a_season.

4:14 Yeshua begins his ministry

(Mark 1:14-15, Mat. 4:12-17)

14So then Yeshua returned to Galilee in the power of the spirit, and the news about him spread into the surrounding region. 15He started teaching in the meeting halls and everyone said how good it was.

14And the Yaʸsous returned in the power of_the spirit to the Galilaia/(Gālīl).
And a_news came_out to all the surrounding_region concerning him.
15And he was_teaching in the synagogues of_them, being_glorified by all.

4:16 Yeshua isn’t appreciated in Nazareth

(Mark 6:1-6, Mat. 13:53-58)

16When he got to Nazareth where he grew up, he went into the meeting hall as usual on the Rest Day and stood up to do the reading. 17The scroll of the prophet Isayah was handed to him, and opening up the scroll, he found the place where it was written,

18[ref]Yahweh’s spirit is on me,

because he has chosen and equipped me

to preach the good message to the poor.

He has sent me out to proclaim freedom for captives

and to restore sight to the blind,

and for the oppressed to experience freedom.

19He’s sent me to proclaim that this is the year that Yahweh has chosen.

20Then after rolling up the scroll and giving it back to the attendant, he sat down to give his commentary and every person in the room was studying him 21as he began to speak, “Today this scripture that you’ve just heard has been fulfilled.

22Later everyone was telling others about him, and they were marvelling at his messages displaying God’s grace, and they asked each other, “Isn’t this Yosef’s son from down the road?”

23Then Yeshua answered them, “I’m sure you’ll all be telling me that parable about the doctor who needed to heal himself, because you’ll be wanting me to do here in my hometown what I did in Capernaum. 24[ref]I can assure you all that no prophet is accepted by his own hometown. 25[ref]There were certainly many widows in Israel in the days of Eliyah when God stopped the rain for three and a half years and caused a terrible famine. 26[ref]But Eliyah wasn’t sent to any of them—rather he was sent to a foreign widow in Zarephath in the Tsidon region. 27[ref]Also there were many people in Israel with leprosy in the days of the prophet Elisha and none of them were healed, but only Naaman from Syria.

28By now everyone in the meeting hall that heard this was furious 29and they all stood up, planning to throw him out of the city. They led him to the edge of the hill that their town was built on, intending to throw him over the edge, 30but somehow he just moved through the middle of them and left.

16And he_came to Nazaret, where he_was having_been_brought_up, and he_came_in according_to that having_been_accustomed to_him, on the day of_the days_of_rest into the synagogue, and he_stood_up to_read.
17And the_scroll of_the prophet Aʸsaias/(Yəshaˊəyāh) was_handed_out to_him, and having_opened_up the scroll, he_found the place where it_was having_been_written, 18The_spirit of_the_master is on me, of_which on_account he_anointed me to_good_message_preach to_the_poor, he_has_sent_ me _out to_proclaim forgiveness to_captives, and regained_sight to_the_blind, having_been_oppressed to_send_out in forgiveness, 19to_proclaim the_ acceptable _year of_the_master.
20And having_rolled_up the scroll having_given_back it to_the attendant, he_sat_down and the eyes of_all in the synagogue were looking_intently at_him.
21And he_began to_be_saying to them, that Today this the scripture has_been_fulfilled in the ears of_you_all.
22And all were_testifying to_him, and were_marvelling at the messages of_ the _grace which going_out out_of the mouth of_him, and they_were_saying, is this Not the_son of_Yōsaʸf/(Yōşēf)?
23And he_said to them:
Certainly you_all_will_be_saying to_me the this parable:
Physician, heal yourself, as_much_as we_heard having_become in the Kafarnaʼoum, also do here in the hometown of_you.
24And he_said:
Truly, I_am_saying to_you_all that not_one prophet is acceptable in the hometown of_him.
25But in truth I_am_saying to_you_all, were many widows in the days of_Aʸlias/(ʼĒliyyāh) in the Israaʸl/(Yisəʼēl), when the sky was_shut for three years and six months when a_ great _famine became on all the land, 26and Aʸlias was_sent to no_one of_them, except not/lest to Sarepta/(Tserəfat) of_the Sidōn/(Tsīdōn)ian region, to the_ widow _woman.
27And many lepers were in the Israaʸl/(Yisəʼēl), during Elissaios/(ʼElīshāˊ) the prophet, and no_one of_them was_cleansed, except not/lest Neʼeman/(Naˊamān) the from_Suria.
28And all in the synagogue were_filled with_rage hearing these things, 29and having_risen_up, they_throw_out him out of_the city, and they_led him to the_brow of_the mountain on which the city of_them had_been_built, so_as to_throw_ him _down.
30But he, having_passed_through through the_midst of_them, was_going.

4:31 The demon-possessed man

(Mark 1:21-28)

31After that, Yeshua went to Capernaum, another town in Galilee, and taught in the meeting hall there on the Rest Days. 32[ref]They were amazed at his teaching, because he presented his message with authority. 33One week there was a man at the meeting hall with a demon spirit and he yelled out, 34“Ha! What do we have in common with you, Yeshua the Nazarene? Did you come here to destroy us? I know who you are—you’re the holy one from God.”

35Yeshua rebuked the demon, saying, “Be quiet! Now come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man to the floor right in the middle of them, and came out of him, and left him feeling perfectly fine.

36This amazed everyone and they started asking each other, “What is this command that has such authority and power that he orders evil spirits around and they come out?” 37After that, the reports of what he’d done were passed around to every part of the surrounding region.

31And he_came_down to Kafarnaʼoum, a_city of_ the _Galilaia/(Gālīl).
And he_was teaching them on the days_of_rest.
32And they_were_being_astonished at the teaching of_him, because the message of_him was with authority.
33And in the synagogue was a_man having a_spirit of_a_ unclean _demon, and he_cried_out with_a_ loud _voice, 34Ha.
What to_us and to_you, Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) Nazaraʸnos?
Came_you to_destroy us?
I_have_known who you are, the holy one of_ the _god.
35And the Yaʸsous gave_rebuke to_it saying:
Be_silenced, and come_out from him.
And the demon having_thrown_ him _down into the midst, came_out from him, nothing having_harmed him.
36And amazement became on all, and they_were_conversing_with to one_another saying:
What is the this message, that with authority and power he_is_commanding to_the unclean spirits, and they_are_coming_out?
37And the_report concerning him was_going_out into every place of_the surrounding_region.

4:38 Yeshua heals many people

(Mark 1:29-34, Mat. 8:14-17)

38After getting up and leaving the meeting hall, Yeshua went to Simon’s home where Simon’s mother-in-law had been struck with a high fever and they asked Yeshua about it. 39Going over to where she was lying, Yeshua rebuked the fever and it left her, and she stood up straight away and got them something to eat.

40In the evening, anyone who had a relative with any kind of disease brought their sick relatives to Yeshua and he placed his hands on each one of them and healed them. 41Also demons came out from many people, yelling out, “You are God’s son.”

But he rebuked them and didn’t allow them to speak because they knew that he was the messiah.

38And from the synagogue having_risen_up, he_came_in into the house of_Simōn.
And the_mother_in_law of_ the _Simōn was being_gripped_with with_a_ great _fever, and they_asked to_him about her.
39And having_stood_by over her, he_gave_rebuke to_the fever, and it_left her, and immediately having_stood_up, she_was_serving unto_them.
40And at_the_setting of_the sun, all as_many_as were_having ailing ones with_ various _diseases, they_brought them to him, and he laying_on his hands to_one each of_them, was_healing them.
41And also demons was_coming_out from many, crying_out and saying, that You are the son of_ the _god.
But giving_rebuke, he_was_ not _allowing them to_be_speaking, because they_had_known him to_be the chosen_one/messiah.

4:42 Yeshua’s preaching in Yudea

(Mark 1:35-39)

42The next day, Yeshua went off to a quiet place, but the crowds were looking for him and followed after him and insisted that he didn’t leave them, 43but he told them, “I also need to preach this good message about God’s kingdom in other towns, because that’s why I was sent here.44So then he went down to Yudea and preached in the meeting halls there.

42And having_become day, having_come_out he_was_gone into a_desolate place, and the crowds were_seeking_after him, and they_came up_to him, and they_were_restraining him which to_ not _be_going from them.
43But he said to them, that it_is_fitting me also to_good_message_preach the kingdom of_ the _god to_the other cities, because I_was_sent_out for this.
44And he_was proclaiming in the synagogues the of_Youdaia.
