Also known as an “apothecary” (Ex 30:25, KJB) or a “confectionary” (1 Sm 8:13, KJB). This person prepared oils, powders, and mixtures for medicinal use, for perfumes and cosmetics, and for religious use in incense. A wide variety of plants, when crushed, provided oils or powders giving off distinctive odors. See Perfume.
