Luke 8:4–8

13:1 The parable about spreading seed

(Mark 4:1-9, Luke 8:4-8)

13That same day, Yeshua went outside and sat by the lake. 2[ref]A large crowd of people gathered around him, so he got into a boat and sat there while the crowd remained standing on the beach, 3where he told them many parables, saying, “Listen, a farmer went out to plant seed at that time of the year. 4As he was spreading the seed, some of it fell beside a path and the birds come and ate that seed. 5Some fell on stony ground where there wasn’t much soil, and it sprouted immediately because the thin layer of soil was moist and warm, 6but when the sun rose high, it was scorched and not having any deep roots, it withered up. 7Some seed fell in a thistle patch, but the thistles grew over them and choked them out. 8However, some seed landed on the good soil and it grew to bear a harvest—some a hundred times more, some sixty times, and some thirty times. 9Anyone who wants to hear should strive to understand this.

4:1 The parable about planting seed

(Mat. 13:1-9, Luke 8:4-8)

4[ref]Again Yeshua started teaching by the edge of the lake. A huge crowd gathered around him, but he had boarded the boat floating in the water, and all the people were there on the land. 2And he taught them many different things in parables, including this one: 3Listen. Once there was a farmer who went to spread some seed. 4As he spread it, some landed on the path, and the birds came and feed on it. 5Some landed on a rocky part without a lot of soil, and it quickly sprouted in the warm, shallow soil, 6but when the sun came up, it dried out because the roots weren’t deep, and so it just withered up. 7Some of the seed landed in a thistle patch, and the thistles grew and choked it out, so the plants never bore a crop. 8But some seed landed in fertile soil and it bore a harvest—some of it multiplying thirty times, some sixty, and some a hundred times.

9Then Yeshua added, “Anyone who wants to understand, let them consider it.

8:4 The parable about spreading seeds

(Mark 4:1-9, Mat. 13:1-9)

4A large crowd gathered around Yeshua, including many who had travelled out from the city, and he told them this parable:

5One day a farmer went out to plant some seeds. As he scattered the seeds, some of them fell along the path where they got trampled on and the birds ate them. 6Some of the seeds landed in a rocky area where they then sprouted, but then they withered up because they didn’t have enough moisture. 7Some of the seeds landed in a patch of thistles, and as the plants started to grow, they were choked our by the thistles. 8Some of the seeds fell onto good soil, and then the plants grew up to produce a harvest of one hundred times as much.

As he was saying this, he was also telling them, “Anyone who wants to hear, listen carefully.
