Yeshua answers about genuine obedience to God

Mat 22:34–40

Luke 10:25–28

12:28 Yeshua answers about genuine obedience to God

(Mat. 22:34-40, Luke 10:25-28)

28Then one of the religious teachers who had heard their question and Yeshua’s excellent answer, came closer and asked, “Which of the commandments is the most important?”

29[ref]Yeshua answered, “Well, the most important is this: ‘Listen, Israel. There’s only one God who is our master. 30You must love God your master with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31[ref]And the second is: ‘Love your neighbour like you look after yourself.’ There’s no other commandments more important than these.

32[ref]The teacher replied to Yeshua, “Yes, teacher, you’re quite right saying there’s only one God and no other, 33[ref]and saying that we should love him with all our heart and all our intelligence and all our strength, and to be loving our neighbours like we look after ourselves, and all this is more important than all the required temple offerings and sacrifices.”

34[ref]When Yeshua saw that he had given such a thoughtful answer, he said, “You are very close to the kingdom of God!

After that, no one else dared to ask Yeshua any more questions.

22:34 The most important commandment

(Mark 12:28-34, Luke 10:25-28)

34But when the Pharisees party heard that Yeshua had silenced the Sadducees, they decided to work together, 35so a lawyer among them tested him by asking, 36Teacher, which is the most important commandment from Moses?”

37[ref]You should love the master, your God, with all of your heart and your soul and your mind. 38That’s the first and most important commandment. 39[ref]The next is similar to it: You should love your neighbour like yourself. 40[ref]Everything from the Torah and the writings of the prophets just follows on from those two commandments.

10:25 How to be a neighbour

25[ref]Then look, a lawyer stood us to test him, asking, “Teacher, what do I need to do to inherit eternal life?”

26Well, what’s written in the scriptures?” responded Yeshua. “How do you understand them?

27[ref]“You must love the master, your God, with all your heart and all your soul, and all your strength and all your mind,” he replied. “Also, you must love your neighbour as yourself.”

28[ref]You’ve answered correctly,” answered Yeshua, “so do that and you’ll live forever.
