Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection

Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection

21From that time [fn]Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised up. 22So Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “God forbid, Lord! This shall certainly not happen to yoʋ.” 23But he turned around and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! Yoʋ are a stumbling block to me, for yoʋ are not thinking about the things of God, but the things of men.”

24Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to come after me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. 25For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26For what [fn]does it benefit a person if he gains the whole world but forfeits his soul? Or what can a person give in exchange for his soul? 27For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. 28Truly I say to you, there are some standing here who will certainly not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”
