MOTE*

Term used in the KJB to describe a small particle lodged in the eye of a “brother” (Mt 7:3-5; Lk 6:41-42). More recent translations prefer the term “speck.”

Show passage in OET: MAT 7:3–5

OET-RV MAT 7:3

3 And why are you looking at the speck of sawdust in another person’s eye when you have an entire board in your own eye?

OET-RV MAT 7:4

4 How could you offer to get the speck out of their eye, when you still have the board in yours?

OET-RV MAT 7:5

5 What a hypocrite! First get the board out of your own eye, and then you’ll be able to see clearly so that you can help them with their eye.

OET-LV MAT 7:3

3 And why you_are_looking the speck which in the eye of_the brother of_you, but you_are_ not _observing the speck beam in the your eye?

OET-LV MAT 7:4

4 Or how you_will_be_saying to_the brother of_you:
Allow that I_may_throw_out the speck from the eye of_you, and see, the beam is in the eye of_you?

OET-LV MAT 7:5

5 Hypocrite, first throw_out the beam from the eye of_you, and then you_will_be_seeing_clearly to_throw_out the speck from the eye of_the brother of_you.
Show passage in OET: LUK 6:41–42

OET-RV LUK 6:41

41 “How come you notice the speck in someone else’s eye, yet don’t even notice the log that’s in your own eye?

OET-RV LUK 6:42

42 How can you tell that person, ‘Hey, let me get that speck out of your eye,’ when you can’t even see the log in your eye? You hypocrite, get the log out of your eye and then you’ll be able to see clearly so you can remove the speck in the other person’s eye.

OET-LV LUK 6:41

41 And why are_you_looking at_the speck which in the eye of_the brother of_you, but you_are_ not _observing the beam which in your own eye?

OET-LV LUK 6:42

42 How are_you_being_able to_be_saying to_the brother of_you:
Brother, allow I_may_throw_out the speck which in the eye of_you, not seeing yourself the beam in the eye of_you?
Hypocrite, first throw_out the beam from the eye of_you, and then you_will_be_seeing_clearly to_throw_out the speck which in the eye of_the brother of_you.
