12:21 Shemayah’s prophecy

Southern kingdom

(2 Chr. 11:1-4)

21 So when Shelomoh’s (Solomon) son Rehav’am (Rehoboam) returned to Yerushalem (Jerusalem), he assembled all the tribes of Yehudah (Judah) and Benyamin, and 180,000 warriors were chosen to fight against the northern tribes to return the kingship to him. 22 But God told the prophet Shemayah, 23 “Go and tell Shelomoh’s son Rehav’am, the king of Yehudah, and tell all the descendants of Yehudah and Benyamin, and the remainder of the people, saying, 24 ‘Yahweh says this: Don’t go and fight against your Israeli relatives. Everyone should just return home because everything that happened there was initiated by me.’ ” When they heard Yahweh’s message, they took note of it and everyone went back home.

11 When Rehav’am (Rehoboam) arrived in Yerushalem (Jerusalem), he assembled Yehudah’s (Judah) and Benyamin’s warriors: 180,000 chosen to fight against Yisrael (Israel) to bring the kingdom back to Rehav’am. 2 But Yahweh spoke to the prophet Shemayah, saying, 3 “Go and tell this to Shelomoh’s (Solomon) son King Rehav’am of Yehudah, and to all the Israeli people from the Yehudah and Benyamin tribes: 4 Yahweh says that you mustn’t go and fight with your relatives. Everyone should just go home again, because everything that’s happened came from me.” So they listened to the message from Yahweh, and called off the planned attack against Yarov’am (Jeroboam).
