Song 47/God the king of entire world

Psa 47:1–9

For the musical director: a song[fn] by Korah’s descendants.

47Clap your hands, all you peoples.

≈ Shout to God with a cheerful voice.

2For Yahweh the highest one can be terrifying.

≈ He is a great king over the whole world.

3He subdues peoples under us

≈ and puts nations under our control.

4He chooses our inheritance for us—

→ the land which Yakov (who he loved) was proud of. (Instrumental break.)

5God has gone up with a shout,

≈ Yahweh ascended with a trumpet blast.

6Sing praises to God, sing praises.

≈ Sing praises to our king, sing praises,

7because God is the king over the whole world.

Sing praises with understanding.

8God reigns over the nations.

≈ God sits on his sacred throne.

9The nations’ leaders have gathered together to the people of Abraham’s god,

because God controls the nations’ defences.

He is greatly honoured.

47:0 In Hebrew, ‘maskil’ is perhaps the name of this class of song.
