Songs 47/God the king of entire world

Psa 47:1–9

47 For the musical director: a song[fn] by Korah’s descendants.

47Clap your hands, all you peoples.

Shout to God with a cheerful voice.

2For Yahweh the highest one can be terrifying.

He is a great king over the whole world.

3He subdues peoples under us

and puts nations under our control.

4He chooses our inheritance for us—

the land which Yakov (who he loved) was proud of. (Instrumental break.)

5God has gone up with a shout,

Yahweh ascended with a trumpet blast.

6Sing praises to God, sing praises.

Sing praises to our king, sing praises,

7because God is the king over the whole world.

Sing praises with understanding.

8God reigns over the nations.

God sits on his sacred throne.

9The nations’ leaders have gathered together to the people of Abraham’s God,

because God controls the nations’ defences.

He is greatly honoured.

47:0 In Hebrew, ‘maskil’ is perhaps the name of this class of song.
