Therefore, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus, 2and what you have heard from me through many witnesses, entrust these things to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.

[[You, therefore,]][fn] Endure hardship with me, as a good soldier of {Christ Jesus}.[fn] 4No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him.

If indeed someone competes, they are not crowned unless they compete according to the rules. 6The hardworking farmer ought to be the first to receive a share of the crops. 7Understand what I am saying; {for}[fn] the Lord will give you insight in all things.

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, from the seed of David, according to my gospel, 9in which I suffer hardship to the point of chains as a criminal, but the word of God is not bound.

For this reason, I endure all things for the sake of the chosen ones, so that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

This saying is trustworthy: For if we died together, we will also live together; 12if we endure, we will also reign together; if we deny him, he also will deny us; 13if we are faithless, he remains faithful; [for][fn] he cannot deny[fn] himself.

Remind them of these things, solemnly testifying before {God}[fn] not to quarrel about words, which is of no use and leads to the ruin of the hearers.

Strive to present yourself approved to God, an unashamed worker, rightly dividing the word of truth.

But avoid irreverent, empty speech, for this will lead to more and more ungodliness, 17and their words will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18who have deviated from the truth, saying [the][fn] resurrection has already occurred, and they are overturning the faith of some.

However, the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his, and, Let everyone who names the name of {the Lord}[fn] depart from iniquity.”[fn]

In a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also wooden and clay ones, and some are for honor, others for dishonor. 21Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, [[and]][fn] useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.

But flee youthful desires, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace, along with {all} [fn] those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

But avoid foolish and uneducated disputes, knowing that they generate strife.

A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25correcting those who oppose him with gentleness, so that perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, 26and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.
