1:1 Introduction

1[ref]Dear Theophilus, I wrote my first account about all the things that Yeshua began to do and to teach 2until the day when he was taken up[ref] into the sky after, with the help of the holy spirit, having commanded the missionaries that he had chosen.

1Indeed the first account I_made concerning all things, Oh Theofilos, of_which Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) began both to_be_doing and to_be_teaching, 2until which day having_commanded by the_ holy _spirit to_the ambassadors, whom he_chose, he_was_taken_up,

1:3 Yeshua, alive, tells them to wait

3After the time of his suffering, Yeshua presented himself to them in ways that were infallible proofs that he was alive againappearing to them and telling them about God’s kingdom. 4[ref]Once when they were together, he told them, “Don’t leave Yerusalem, but wait there for what was promised by the father, as you all have already heard me say. 5[ref]Yohan immersed people in water, but you all will be immersed in the holy spirit in just a few days.

3to_whom also after the time him to_suffer he_presented himself living, with many proofs through forty days, appearing to_them, and speaking the things concerning the kingdom of_ the _god.
4And assembling_together, he_commanded to_them:
From Hierousalaʸm/(Yərūshālayim) not to_be_being_departed, but to_be_awaiting the promise of_the father, which you_all_heard from_me.
5Because Yōannaʸs on_one_hand immersed in_water, on_the_other_hand you_all will_be_being_immersed in the_ holy _spirit, after many not these days.

1:6 Yeshua’s ascension

6So when they were next gathered together, they asked him, “Master, is this now the time when you’ll be restoring the kingdom to Israel?”[fn]

7But Yeshua responded to them, “You don’t need to know the times or seasons when future events will happen—it’s the father who decides all that. 8[ref]However, you all will be receiving power when the holy spirit lands on you. Then you’ll tell people about me in Yerusalem and all across the provinces of Yudea and Samaria, and all the way to the furtherest parts of the planet.9[ref]After he’d said that and while they were still looking at him, he was lifted up into the sky until they could no longer see him because of the clouds.

10As they stood there staring into the sky after he’d gone, suddenly two men in white clothes were standing beside them 11and said, “You men from Galilee! Why are you still standing there looking up at the sky? This Yeshua who has been taken up away from you into heaven will come back in the same way that you saw him go up into heaven.”

6Therefore indeed the ones having_come_together, were_asking him saying:
master, if at the this time, are_you_restoring the kingdom the to_Israaʸl/(Yisəʼēl)?
7And he_said to them:
It_is not of_you_all to_know times or seasons, which the father set by his own authority.
8But you_all_will_be_receiving power, having_ The holy spirit _come_over on you_all, and you_all_will_be witnesses for_me, in both Hierousalaʸm, and in all the Youdaia, and Samareia/(Shomərōn), and to the_last part of_the earth.
9And having_said these things, seeing them, he_was_lifted_up and a_cloud took_ him _up from the eyes of_them.
10And as they_were looking_intently into the sky, him going, also see two men in white clothing, had_stood_by to_them, 11who also said:
Men, Galilaios, why you_all_have_stood looking at the sky?
This the Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) which having_been_taken_up from you_all into the heaven, thus will_be_coming which manner you_all_saw him going into the heaven.

1:12 Matthias replaces Yudas Iscariot

12Then they walked down the Mount of Olives and returned to Yerusalem which was less than a kilometre away. 13[ref]They went into the upstairs room where they were staying—Peter and Yohan, Yacob and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, Yacob (son of Alpheus), Simon (the Zealot member), and Yudas (son of Yacob). 14They were united in their ongoing prayers, along with Maria the mother of Yeshua, and his brothers.

15Then one day, Peter stood up in the meeting of the believers (about 120 of them) and said, 16Brothers, it was necessary for the scripture to be fulfilled, where the holy spirit had spoken previously through David about Yudas, the one who guided those that arrested Yeshua 17because Yudas was one of us and took his part in our work.

18[ref](Yudas had bought a field with the money he had received for his treachery, and when he had fallen down in that field, his stomach had burst open and his intestines had slid out on the ground. 19So everyone in Yerusalem started calling that place ‘The field of blood’.)

20[ref]Now it was written in the scroll of songs:

‘Let his place become deserted with no one living there,’

and

‘Let another person take his position.’

21So now it’s appropriate for one of the men that has been with us for the whole time that the master Yeshua was interacting with us, 22[ref]from Yeshua’s immersion by Yohan until the day that he was lifted up from us into the clouds—a witness of the resurrection—to fill this position.

23So they selected two men: Yosef Barsabbas (nicknamed Justus) and Matthias. 24Then they requested, “Master, you know everyone’s inner thoughts, so reveal to us which of these two that you have chosen 25to take this position of service and being an missionary—the position that Yudas deserted to go to his own place.” 26So they drew straws and Matthias was marked so he was chosen to join the eleven missionaries.

1:6 At the time of asking, Israelis were burdened under the rule and taxes of the Roman occupiers.

12Then they_returned to Hierousalaʸm/(Yərūshālayim) from the_mountain which being_called of_Olivet, which is near Hierousalaʸm, having journey of_a_day_of_rest.
13And when they_came_in, into the upper_room, they_went_up where they_were staying, which and/both Petros and Yōannaʸs and Yakōbos/(Yaˊaqov) and Andreas, Filippos and Thōmas, Bartholomaios and Matthaios, Yakōbos of_Alfaios, and Simōn the Farisaios_zaʸlōtaʸs_group_member, and Youdas/(Yəhūdāh) of_Yakōbos.
14These all were persevering the in_prayer with_one_accord, with the_women and Maria/(Mirəyām) the mother of_ the _Yaʸsous, and the brothers of_him.
15And in the these days, Petros having_stood_up in the_midst of_the brothers said (and the_crowd of_names with the same was about a_hundred twenty), 16Men, brothers, it_was_fitting the scripture to_be_fulfilled, which the the holy spirit previously_said by the_mouth of_Dawid/(Dāvid) concerning Youdas, the one having_become guide to_the ones having_captured Yaʸsous.
17Because he_was having_been_numbered with us, and obtained the an_allotment of_ the this _service.
18(Therefore indeed this man acquired a_field out_of the_reward of_ the _unrighteousness, and having_become headlong, he_burst_open in_the_middle, and all the intestines of_him was_poured_out.
19And it_became known to_all the ones dwelling_in Hierousalaʸm/(Yərūshālayim), so_that that the field to_be_called in_their language of_them, Akeldama, this is:
field of_blood.
) 20For/Because it_has_been_written in scroll of_psalms, the the_homestead of_him Let_be_become desolate, and let_ not _be the one dwelling in it, and:
let_ another _take The overseeing of_him.
21Therefore it_is_fitting of_the men having_come_together with_us, at all the_time that the master Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) came_in and came_out with us, 22having_begun from the immersion of_Yōannaʸs until the day in_which he_was_taken_up from us, a_witness of_the resurrection of_him with us, to_become one of_these.
23And they_set two, Yōsaʸf/(Yōşēf) which being_called Barsabbas, who was_called Youstos, and Matthias.
24And having_prayed, they_said:
You master, heart_knower of_all, reveal which one you_chose of these the two, 25to_take the this place of_ the _service and commission, from which Youdas/(Yəhūdāh) broke_from, to_be_gone to his the own place.
26And they_gave lots to_them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he_was_chosen_together_with with the eleven ambassadors.
