Literal Version

13:1 The spirit chooses Barnabas and Saul

13In the assembly at Antioch there were some prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon (called Niger), Lucius from Cyrene, Manaen (who grew up with Herod the tetrarch), and Saul. 2One day when they were ministering to the master and fasting, the holy spirit said, Appoint Barnabas and Saul to serve me and do the work that I have called them to.” 3So they fasted and prayed and placed their hands on the two, and then sent them off.

13And there_were prophets and teachers in Antioⱪeia, in the assembly being:
the both Barnabas, and Sumeōn/(Shiməˊōn) who being_called Niger, and Loukios the from_Kuraʸnaʸ, And Manaaʸn raised_with of_Haʸrōdaʸs of_the quarter_ruler, and Saulos.
2And of_them ministering to_the master and fasting, the the holy spirit said:
Indeed set_apart to_me the Barnabas and Saulos, because/for the work which I_have_called_ them _to.
3Then having_fasted, and having_prayed, and having_laid_on their hands on_them, they_sent_away them.

13:4 Barnabas and Saul go to Cyprus to preach

4So Barnabas and Saul, having been sent by the holy spirit, went down to Seleucia at the coast and from there sailed on to the island of Cyprus. 5When they arrived in the town of Salamis, they proclaimed God’s message in the Jewish meeting halls. They also had Yohan as their assistant.

4Therefore indeed They having_been_sent_out by the holy spirit, came_down to Seleukeia, and from_there they_sailed_away to Kupros.
5And having_become in Salamis, they_were_proclaiming the message of_the of_god in the synagogues of_the Youdaiōns.
And they_were_ also _having Yōannaʸs, an_attendant.

13:6 Sergius believes after Bar-Jesus is blinded

6They travelled around the island and when they got to Paphos, they met a Jewish man named Bar-Jesus.[fn] He was a sorcerer and false prophet 7who was with Sergius Paulus the proconsul, an intelligent man. Sergius sent for Barnabas and Saul because he wanted to hear God’s message from them, 8but the sorcerer opposed them and tried to prevent Sergius from believing. 9So then Saul (the Roman form of his name was Paul), filled with the holy spirit looked intently at Bar-Jesus 10and said, “You’re full of all kinds of deceit and fraud you child of the devil. Will you never stop twisting the truth about following the master? 11Well, look here! The master will extend his power against you and blind you—you’ll go a season without seeing the sun!”

And immediately he could only see fog and darkness, and needed someone to guide him around by the hand. 12The proconsul believed when he saw what had happened, and was amazed as he learnt about the master.

6And having_passed_through all the island until Pafos, they_found a_man, a_certain Youdaiōns false_prophet magician, to_whose name was Bariaʸsous, 7who was with the proconsul Sergios Paulos, a_ intelligent _man.
He, having_called_to Barnabas and Saulos/(Shāʼūl), sought_after to_hear the message of_ the _god.
8But Elumas the magician (for thus is_being_translated the name of_him was_resisting against_them) seeking to_pervert the proconsul from the faith.
9But Saulos, the one also called Paulos, having_been_filled with_the_ holy _spirit, having_looked_intently at him 10said:
Oh son of_the_devil full of_all deceit and all fraud, enemy of_all righteousness, not will_you_be_ceasing perverting the the straight ways of_the master?
11And now see, the_hand of_the_master on you, and you_will_be blind, not seeing the sun until a_season.
and immediately a_mist and darkness fell on him, and going_around he_was_seeking one_leading_by_hand.
12Then the proconsul having_seen what having_become, he_believed being_astonished at the teaching of_the master.

13:13 Paul and Barnabas in Pisidia

13After that, Paul[fn] and his companions sailed from Paphos to Perga in Pamphylia, but Yohan Mark left them and returned to Yerusalem. 14Paul and his companions, went on from Perga to Pisidian Antioch, where they entered the Jewish meeting hall on the Rest Day and sat down with the congregation. 15After the readings from the Law and from the Prophets,[fn] the leaders sent a messenger over to them to ask, “Men, brothers, if you bring any message of encouragement for the congregation, please share it.”

16So Paul stood up and, motioning with his hand, started speaking, “Fellow Israelis and every who reveres God, listen to me. 17The God of the people of Israel chose our ancestors and helped the people to prosper when they were staying in Egypt. Then later he showed his power as he led them out 18and endured them in the wilderness for around forty years. 19Then having overthrown seven nations in Caanan,[ref] he passed on that land as an inheritance 20after around 450 years.

“Then he gave them judges through until the time of the prophet Samuel 21when they requested a king, and God gave them Saul, the son of Kish from the tribe of Benyamin to reign for forty years. 22After Saul was removed, God chose David to be their king—the man of whom he said, ‘I found David the son of Jesse, a man who wants to obey me and do everything I ask.’ 23Then eventually a descendant of David arrived in Israel as promised—the saviour Yeshua. 24Before he arrived Yohan-the-Immerser had publicly preached to all the people of Israel about being immersed as a sign of repentance. 25As Yohan’s ministry was nearing an end, he asked, ‘Who do you suspect I am? I’m not the messiah, but he will come after me, and I’m not even worthy to undo his sandals.’

26“Men, brothers, descendants of Abraham and others here who revere God, the teaching about this salvation has been sent to us. 27The people of Yerusalem and their religious leaders didn’t recognise this Yeshua, but by their judgement of him they fulfilled the words of the prophets that are read every Rest Day. 28Despite not finding even one charge against him worthy of death, they requested Pilate to execute him 29and when they had done all the things that the prophets had written about him, they took his body down from the stake and placed it in a burial chamber. 30But God brought him back to life 31and his followers who had come to Yerusalem from Galilee saw him for several days and now testify about this to the people. 32So now we’re preaching this good message to you that what God promised to our ancestors 33has now been fulfilled for our descendants, now that God brought Yeshua back to life just like it’s written in the second psalm:

‘You are my son;

today I have borne you.’

34God brought him back to life, and he’s never going to return to the grave to decay. As God said,

‘I will give David’s faithful devout things??? to you all.’

35So in another psalm God said,

‘You won’t allow your devout one to experience decay.’

36This can’t be David, because after he’d served his own generation as God led him, he indeed died and was buried with his ancestors and his body decayed. 37On the contrary, the one who God raised from the dead never experienced decay. 38So brothers, let it be known to you all that your sins can now be forgiven through this Yeshua—the law of Moses was never able to offer you that. 39Everyone who puts their trust in Yeshua is able to receive a clean record. 40But keep your eyes open in case something else the prophets wrote might come true:

41Watch you scoffers, and be amazed and die because I’m doing something special during your time.

Even if someone described it clearly to you all, you still might not believe it.’ ”

42As they left the meeting hall after the service, the people invited them to speak again the following Rest Day. 43But when they starting walking away, many people followed after Paul and Barnabas, who then addressed them and encouraged them to continue trusting in God’s grace.

44So on the following Rest Day, nearly everyone in the city had gathered there to hear the message from God. 45But the Jewish religious leaders became very jealous when they saw the crowds and claimed that Paul’s words had slandered God. 46But Paul and Barnabas responded boldly, “It was necessary for God’s message to be explained in the meeting hall to all of the Jews first. But since you are rejecting that teaching, you are all judging yourselves to be unworthy of living forever, so instead, we will now share it with the non-Jews. 47Because this is what the master commanded us:

‘I have chosen you to be a light for the pagans;

You will take salvation to the end of the earth.’

48When the non-Jews heard that, they were very happy and were praising the master’s message, and as many as were appointed to receive eternal life believed it.

49So from there, the master’s message spread throughout the entire region. 50But the Jewish religious leaders incited some prominent women from the meeting halls and some from the local city government, and they then stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas and had them expelled out of their region. 51So Paul and Barnabas just left that place to face their own consequences, and continued on to Iconium. 52Meanwhile the believers back in Pisidian Antioch were full of happiness and of the holy spirit.

13:6 The Greek form of his name was Elymas according to verse 8.

13:13 From this point on in the text, Paul is referred to by his Roman name as his ministry is largely outside of Israel. (In Israel he seemed to be better known as Saul, the Greek form of his Hebrew name Sha-ul.)

13:15 The Hebrew Scriptures are divided into the Law, the Prophets, and the Writings.

13And the ones around  him Paulos having_been_launched from the Pafos, came to Pergaʸ of_ the _Pamfulia.
But Yōannaʸs having_went_away from them, he_returned to Hierousalaʸm/(Yərūshālayim).
14But they, having_passed_through from the Pergaʸ, arrived to Antioⱪeia the Pisidia, and having_come into the synagogue on_the day of_the days_of_rest, they_sat_down.
15And after the public_reading of_the law and of_the prophets, the synagogue_leaders sent_out to them saying:
Men, brothers, if among you_all there_is any message of_exhortation toward the people, be_speaking it.
16And Paulos having_stood_up, and having_gestured with_his hand said:
Men, ones_from_Israaʸl/(Yisəʼēl), and you_all revering the god, hear me.
17The god of_the people of_this Israaʸl/(Yisəʼēl) chose the fathers of_us, and exalted the people in the sojourn in the_land of_Aiguptos/(Miʦərayim), and with ^his_arm high, he_led_out them out_of it, 18and the_time he_endured them in the wilderness about, because/forty_year, 19and having_taken_down seven nations in the_land of_anaʼan/(Kinaˊan), he_parcelled_out the land of_them, 20about four_hundred years and fifty.
And after these things, he_gave them judges until Samouaʸl/(Shəʼēl) the_prophet.
21And_from_there they_requested a_king, and the god gave to_them the Saulos/(Shāʼūl), son of_Kis/(Qīsh), a_man of the_tribe of_Beniamin/(Binəyāmīn), for_ forty _years.
22And having_removed him, he_raised the Dawid/(Dāvid) to_them for a_king, to_whom also he_spoke having_testified:
I_found Dawid the son of_ the _Yessai/(Yishay):
a_man according_to the heart of_me, who will_be_doing all the wills of_me.
23Of the seed of_this one the god according_to promise, brought to_ the _Israaʸl/(Yisəʼēl) a_saviour, Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa), 24of_Yōannaʸs having_publicly_proclaimed before the_face of_the entrance of_him, a_immersion of_repentance to_all the people of_Israaʸl/(Yisəʼēl).
25And while Yōannaʸs was_fulfilling the course, he_was_saying:
What you_all_are_suspecting me to_be?
I am_ not _he, but see, he_is_coming after me, of_whom I_am not worthy to_untie the sandal of_his feet.
26Men, brothers, sons of_the_descent of_Abraʼam/(ʼAvərāhām), and you_all among you_all revering the god, to_us the message of_ the this _salvation was_sent_away.
27For/Because the ones dwelling in Hierousalaʸm/(Yərūshālayim) and the rulers of_them, having_not_known this one and the voices of_the prophets, who being_read on every day_of_rest, having_judged  him they_fulfilled them.
28And having_found not_one cause for_death, they_requested Pilatos him to_be_killed.
29And when they_finished all the things having_been_written concerning him, having_taken_down  him from the stake, they_put  him in a_tomb.
30But the god raised him from the_dead, 31who was_seen for more days, to_the ones having_come_up_with him from the Galilaia/(Gālīl) to Hierousalaʸm, who are now witnesses of_him to the people.
32And we are_good_message_preaching to_you_all the the promise having_become to fathers, 33that the god has_fulfilled this to_the children of_us, having_raised_up Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa), as also in the the second psalm it_has_been_written:
you are son of_me, today I have_bore you.
34And that raised_ him _up from the_dead, no_longer going to_be_returning to decay, thus he_has_said, that I_will_be_giving to_you_all the devout the faithful of_Dawid/(Dāvid).
35Therefore also in another psalm he_is_saying:
You will_ not _be_giving the devout one of_you to_see decay.
36For/Because on_one_hand Dawid having_attended to_the the counsel of_god to_^his_own generation, was_fallen_asleep and was_added to the fathers of_him, and saw decay.
37On_the_other_hand which one the god raised not saw decay.
38Therefore it_let_be known, to_you_all, men, brothers, that through this one, forgiveness of_sins is_being_proclaimed to_you_all, and from all things of_which you_all_were_ not _able to_be_justified in the_law of_Mōsaʸs/(Mosheh), 39everyone which believing in this one is_being_justified.
40Therefore be_watching_out, lest the message having_been_said in the prophets may_come_over:
41Watch, the scoffers, and wonder and be_perishing, because I am_doing a_work in the days of_you_all, a_work which by_no_means you_all_may_ not _believe, if someone may_be_describing_in_detail it to_you_all.
42And of_them departing, they_were_imploring these the messages to_be_spoken to_them on the afterward day_of_rest.
43And having_been_released of_the synagogue, many of_the Youdaiōns and of_the worshipping converts followed the after_Paulos and the Barnabas, who addressing to_them, were_persuading them to_be_remaining in_the grace of_ the _god.
44And on_the coming day_of_rest, almost all the city was_gathered_together to_hear the message of_ the _god.
45But the Youdaiōns having_seen the crowds, they_were_filled with_jealousy and they_were_speaking_against against_the_ slandering _things being_spoken by Paulos.
46and, the Paulos and the Barnabas Having_spoken_boldly said, it_was necessary the message of_ the _god first to_be_spoken To_you_all.
Since and you_all_are_pushing_ it _away, and not worthy you_all_are_judging yourselves of_ the _eternal life, see, we_are_being_turned to the pagans.
47For/Because thus the master has_commanded to_us:
I_have_set you for a_light of_the_pagans, which you to_be for salvation to the_last of_the earth.
48And hearing it the pagans, they_were_rejoicing and were_glorifying the message of_the master, and as_many_as were having_been_appointed to eternal life believed.
49And the message of_the master was_being_carried_through through all the region.
50But the Youdaiōns incited the the prominent worshipping women, and the leaders of_the city, and they_stirred_up a_persecution against the Paulos and Barnabas, and they_throw_ them _out from the regions of_them.
51But they, having_shaken_off the dust of_the feet against them, came to Ikonion.
52And the apprentices/followers were_being_filled with_joy and the_ holy _spirit.
