8:2 Persecution of believers intensifies

That same day, intense persecution began against the assembly in Yerusalem, and so the believers fled throughout the regions of Yudea and Samaria, except for the twelve who stayed. 2 (Some godly men buried Stephen with loud wailing.)

3 [ref]As for Saul, he started on destroying the assembly by entering people’s homes and dragging both men and women out and then off to prison.

2 And devout men buried the Stefanos, and they _made great lamentation over him.
3 But Saulos was _ravaging the assembly, by entering _in the houses, dragging both men and women, he _was _giving _over them to prison.

8:4 Philip preaches in Samaria

4 However, now the people who had fled began to proclaim the good message to others in other places. 5 Around the same time, Philip went to a city in Samaria and told them about the messiah. 6 Crowds gathered and listened carefully to Philip and watched him do miracles—7 many demon-possessed people shouted loudly as the demons left them, and many who were paralysed or lame were healed 8 so there were a lot of happy people there.

4 The ones therefore on _one _hand having _been _dispersed, passed _through good _message _preaching the message.
5 On _the _other _hand Filippos having _come _down to the a_city the of _Samareia, was _proclaiming the chosen _one /messiah to _them.
6 and the crowds /Were /_taking _heed to _the things being _spoken by the Filippos with _one _accord, in the time to _be _hearing them and to _be _seeing the signs that he _was _doing.
7 For/Because many of _the ones having unclean spirits, shouting with_a_ loud _voice, they _were _coming _out, and many having _been _paralyzed and lame were _healed.
8 and great joy became in the that city.

8:9 Simon the magician seeks power

9 One man in the city had been practicing magic and amazing the people, and he claimed that he was someone great. His name was Simon 10 and the people there from the least to the most important said, “This power is from the great god.” 11 They gave him a lot of attention because he’d been amazing them with magic for quite a long time. 12 However when Philip started preaching the good message about God’s kingdom and the name and authority of Yeshua the messiah, they believed the message, and many men and women asked to be immersed in water. 13 Simon himself also believed and was immersed, and then started accompanying Philip around—marvelling as he observed the miracles and signs of God’s power.

14 When the missionaries in Yerusalem heard that many people from Samaria had accepted God’s message, they sent Peter and Yohan out to them 15 so then they prayed for them to receive the holy spirit. 16 (The holy spirit hadn’t fallen on any of them at that point, but they had only been immersed into the name and authority of the master Yeshua.) 17 So Peter and Yohan placed their hands on the new believers and they received the holy spirit.

18 When Simon the magician saw that they received the spirit after having the hands of the missionaries placed on them, he offered money to Peter and Yohan, saying, 19 “Give me this authority so that anyone who I place my hands on will receive the holy spirit.”

20 But Peter responded, “May your money join you in your destruction because you thought you could buy God’s gift with it. 21 There’s no role for you here and no part for you in our work because your heart isn’t right with God. 22 You need to turn away from this evil desire and beg the master that maybe he’ll forgive you for your wrong intentions 23 because I perceive that you have a bitter attitude and ungodly habits.

24 Simon answered, “Oh, please ask the master on my behalf that none of what you mentioned will happen to me.”

9 And a_man certain by_the_name Simōn, was _previously _starting in the city practicing _magic, and amazing the people of_ the _Samareia, saying himself to _be someone great.
10 To _whom all from small to great were _giving _heed saying:
This is the Power of_ the _god, which being _called great.
11 And they _were _giving _heed to _him, because _of that to _have _amazed them with _the magic for _much time.
12 But when they _believed the in _Filippos, good _message _preaching concerning the kingdom the of_god and the name of_Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) chosen _one /messiah, they _were _being _immersed both men and women.
13 And the Simōn himself also believed, and having _been _immersed, was continuing the with _Filippos, observing both signs and great miracles becoming, he _was _marvelling.
14 And the ambassadors in Hierousalaʸm/(Yərūshālayim) having _heard that the Samareia/(Shomərōn) has _received the message of_ the _god, they _sent _out Petros and Yōannaʸs to them, 15 who having _come _down, they _prayed for them, so _that they _may _receive the_ holy _spirit.
16 For/Because it _was not _yet having _fallen _on on no _one of _them, but they _were_ only _being having _been _immersed into the name of _the master Yaʸsous.
17 Then they _were _laying _on their hands on them, and they _were _receiving the_ holy _spirit.
18 And the Simōn having _seen that the spirit is _being _given by the laying _on of _the hands of _the ambassadors, he _offered money to _them 19 saying:
Give to _also _me the this authority, in _order _that on _whom if I _may _lay _on my hands, he _may _be _receiving the_ holy _spirit.
20 But Petros said to him:
The silver of _you, it _might _be to destruction with you, because you _thought to _be _acquiring the gift of_ the _god by money.
21 There _is no portion nor allotment to _you in the this matter.

22 Therefore repent of the this evil of _you, and be _besought of _the master if perhaps the intention of _the heart of _you will _be _being _forgiven to _you.
23 For/Because I _am _seeing you being in the_gall of _bitterness and the_bond of _unrighteousness.
24 But the Simōn answering said:
You _all Be _besought for me to the master, so _that nothing of _which you _all _have _spoken may _come _over on me.

8:25 Philip immerses the Ethiopian official

25 After that, Peter and Yohan continued to testify and proclaim the good message about the master in many villages around Samaria before they returned to Yerusalem.

26 Then a messenger from the master spoke to Philip, “Start walking and head south on the road that goes downhill from Yerusalem to Gaza through the wilderness.” 27 So he headed off, and on the road he came across an important official of the Ethiopian queen[fn] who was in charge of her treasury. This man had been in Yerusalem to worship God 28 and was returning home in his chariot. As he rode, he was reading the scroll of the prophet Isayah, 29 and the spirit told Philip to approach him and stay by the chariot. 30 So Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading from the prophet Isayah and asked, “Do you know what it is that you’re reading about?”

31 “How could I know when I don’t have someone to guide me,” he answered, and so he invited Philip to climb up and sit with him. 32 Now the particular passage that he was reading was this:[ref]

‘He was led away like a sheep being led to the slaughterhouse,

and stayed as silent as a lamb being shorn

so he never opened his mouth.

33 He was humiliated by a lack of justice.

Who can name his descendants,

because his life is being taken from the earth?’

34 “Now tell me,” said the official, “who was Isayah talking about? Was he talking about himself or someone else?” 35 So Philip started with that passage and explained the good message about Yeshua to him. 36 As they were going along the road, they came to some water, and the official asked, “Look, here’s some water. What would stop me from being immersed here?”

37 ◘ 38 So he commanded the driver to stop the chariot and they both climbed down, and Philip immersed the official in the water. 39 But as they came out of the water, the master’s spirit snatched Philip away and so the official never saw him again, but he continued on his journey very happy. 40 As for Philip, he found himself at the town of Azotus, and as he passed through the coastal towns on the way to Caesarea, he proclaimed the good message in each town.

8:27 Some translations list the queen’s name as ‘Candace’, but that was the name of the series of queens, cf., Far’oh (Pharaoh) or Caesar which came to be used as a title for more than one person.

25 Therefore they indeed, having _testified and having _spoken the message of _the master, were _returning to Hierousalaʸm/(Yərūshālayim), and they _were _evangelizing many villages of _the Samareitaʸs/(Shomərōn).
26 But an_messenger of_the_master spoke to Filippos saying:
Rise _up and be _going to the_south, to the road which coming _down from Hierousalaʸm to Gaza/(ˊAzzāh), this is the_wilderness road.
27 And having _risen _up, he _was _gone, and see, a_man, an_Aithiops/(Kūshiy) eunuch, official of _Kandakaʸ queen of_the_Aithiopss, who was over all the treasure of _her, who had _come going _to _prostrate in Hierousalaʸm, 28 and he _was returning and sitting in the chariot of _him, and was _reading the prophet Aʸsaias/(Yəshaˊə^yāh).
29 And the spirit said to_ the _Filippos:
Approach and be _joined _together to_ the this _chariot.
30 And the Filippos having _run _up, heard of _him reading Aʸsaias the prophet, and said:
Then surely you _are _knowing what you _are _reading?
31 And he said:
For/Because how wishfully I _might _be _able if not someone will _be _guiding me?
And he _appealed the to _Filippos having _gone _up to _sit _down with him.
32 And the passage of_ the _scripture which he _was _reading was this:
he _was _led As a_sheep to the_slaughter, and silent as a_lamb before the one having _shaved him, thus he _is_ not _opening _up the mouth of _him.
33 In the humiliation, the justice of _him was _taken _away, who will _be _describing the generation of _him?
Because the life of _him is _being _taken _away from the earth.
34 And the eunuch answering to_ the _Filippos said:
I _am _beseeching of _you concerning whom the prophet is _saying this?
Concerning himself or concerning someone other?
35 And the Filippos having _opened _up the mouth of _him, and having _begun from the this scripture, he _good _message _preached the Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) to _him.
36 And as they _were _going along the road, they _came to some water, and the eunuch is _saying:
Behold, water, what is _forbidding me to _be _immersed?
37  38 And he _commanded the chariot to _stop, and they_ both _came _down, to the water, the both Filippos and the eunuch, and he _immersed him.
39 But when they _went _up out _of the water, the_spirit of_the_master snatched the Filippos, and the eunuch not saw him no _longer, because/for he _was _going the way of _him rejoicing.
40 But Filippos was _found at Azōtos/(ʼAshədōd), and passing _through he _was _good _message _preaching to_ all _the cities, until the time him to _come to Kaisareia.
