OET ACTs chapter 28

28 Once everyone was safe, we discovered that the island is called Malta. 2 And the people there showed incredible kindness to us as they welcomed us and lit a fire, as it started raining again and was very cold. 3 However when Paul was helping to pick up sticks and putting them on the fire, a viper was driven out by the heat and clamped its jaws down on his hand. 4 When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand they decided that he must be a murderer who had survived the shipwreck but now fate had finally decided his time was up. 5 However, Paul just shook the snake off into the fire and wasn’t harmed. 6 The locals were waiting for his arm to swell up or for him to fall down dead, but after a while when nothing happened they changed their minds and decided that instead, he must be a god.

7 The area that we had beached in belonged to the leader of the island named Publius. He welcomed us and looked after us for three days, 8 but while we were there, his father got sick with dysentery and fever. Paul went in and placing his hands on him, prayed for him and healed him. 9 As a result of that, anyone on the whole island who was sick came and was cured 10 and so the people brought us many gifts and when we left, they supplied us with provisions.

28 And having _been _brought _safely _through, then we _learned that the island is _being _called Melitaʸ.
2 And the foreigners were _bringing _about not just the having _been _ordinary human _kindness to _us, because/for having _lit a_fire, they _received all us, because _of the rain which having _approached, and because _of the cold.
3 But the Paulos having _gathered some multitude of _sticks, and having _laid _on them on the fire, a_viper having _come _out from the heat, clamped _down on _the hand of _him.
4 And when the foreigners saw the wild _animal being _hanged from the hand of _him, they _were _saying to one _another:
Certainly this the man is a_murderer, whom having _been _brought _safely _through from the sea, the justice not allowed him to _be _living.
5 Therefore indeed he, having _shaken _off the wild _animal into the fire, suffered not _one harm.
6 But they were _expecting him to _be _going to _be _being _swelled _up, or to _be _falling _down suddenly dead.
But over much time, them waiting and observing nothing amiss becoming to him, having _changed _their _minds they _were _saying him to _be a_god.
7 And in the parts about the that place, was _being properties to _the leader of _the island by_the_name Poplios, who having _accepted us hospitably lodged three days.
8 And it _became, the father of_ the _Poplios to _be _lying _down being _gripped _with with _fevers and dysentery, to whom the Paulos having _come _in, and having _prayed, having _laid _on the hands on _him, he _healed him.
9 And this having _become, also the rest which in the island having sicknesses were _approaching and were _being _healed, 10 who also they _honoured us with _many honours, and being _launched, they _laid _on the things for our needs.

28:11 Sailing from Malta to Rome

11 After three months we were able to leave on an Alexandrian ship that had wintered at the island. It was decorated with carvings of the twin ‘gods’. 12 We stayed three days when we arrived at Syracuse 13 and then we sailed on to Rhegium. The next day a south wind came so we sailed on to Puteoli 14 where we found some believers and they encouraged us to stay for seven days. Then we finally got to Rome. 15 The believers in Rome had heard about us, so they came to meet us at the Appius Market and the Three Taverns. Paul was encouraged to see them and thanked God.

11 And after three months, we _were _launched in a_ship having _wintered in the island, an_from _Alexandria with_a_figurehead to _Zeus _twins.
12 And having _been _set _down at Surakousai, we _remained _on three days, 13 whence having _cut _away, we _arrived at Ɽaʸgion.
And after one day, having _come _on a_south _wind, the_second day we _came to Potioloi, 14 where having _found the_brothers, we _were _implored by them to _remain _on seven days.
And thus we _came to the Ɽōmaʸ.
15 And _from _there the brothers having _heard, the things concerning us, came to meeting with _us until Appios Market and Three Taverns, whom the Paulos having _seen, having _giving _thanks to_ the _god, took courage.

28:16 Paul preaches in Rome

16 When we got into Rome proper, Paul was allowed to live by himself, with just a soldier guarding him.

17 After three days, he called together the leaders of the Jews in Rome, and when they’d all gathered he spoke to them, “Men, brothers, I have done nothing against my people or against our ancestral customs. I was taken prisoner in Yerusalem and handed over to the Romans 18 who, after examining me, wanted to release me because I had done nothing worthy of execution. 19 But in defending myself against the Jews there, I felt compelled to appeal to Caesar, although I myself had no complaint against the Jews. 20 So that was why I called for you and wanted to address you, because I am in chains for the sake of Israel’s hope—the messiah.”

21 “We haven’t received any correspondence here about you,” they answered. “Nor have any of our brothers from Yerusalem arrived here to report any crimes of yours. 22 But we would very much like to hear from you about your thinking, because we’ve certainly heard about this new sect because everyone is speaking out against it.”

23 Then they set a day when they could visit him where he was staying and so that from morning to evening he could explain about God’s kingdom and show them how Moses’ law and the prophets’ writings spoke about Yeshua. 24 Afterwards some were persuaded while others didn’t find it believable. 25 They argued back and forth, and as they were about to leave, Paul shared this final message, “The holy spirit spoke rightly through Isayah the prophet to your ancestors, saying:

26 Go to these people and tell them,

When you listen you will hear but not understand,

and when you look you will see but not perceive it.

27 Because these people’s minds have become dull

and they can barely hear with their ears

and they shut their eyes,

just in case their eyes might actually see,

and their ears might actually hear,

and they might understand with their minds,

and turn back to me

and then I would heal them.

28 So now let it be known to you all that the message of salvation from God has been sent out to non-Jews and they will listen.”

29 ◘ 30 Paul remained in his own rental accommodation in Rome for two whole years and welcomed everyone who went to see him, 31 telling them about God’s kingdom and boldly teaching about the master Yeshua without any hindrance.

16 And When we _came _in to Ɽōmaʸ, it _was _permitted the to _Paulos to _be _remaining by himself, with the soldier guarding him.
17 And it _became after three days, him to _call _together the ones being leaders of _the Youdaiōns.
And them having _come _together, he _was _saying to them:
Men brothers I, having _done nothing contrary to _the people or the the ancestral customs, a_prisoner from Hierousalaʸm/(Yərūshālayim) was _given _over into the hands of _the Ɽōmaios, 18 who having _examined me, were _wishing to _send _away me, because _of that not _one cause of _death to _be _being in me.
19 But speaking _against of _the Youdaiōns, I _was _compelled to _appeal to _Kaisar, not as having anything to _be _accusing against _the nation of _me.
20 Therefore for this the cause, I _begged you _all, to _see and to _address, because/for on _account of _the hope of_ the _Israaʸl/(Yisərā^ʼēl), this the chain I _am _being _encompassed in.
21 And they said to him:
We neither received letters concerning you from the Youdaia, nor having _arrived anyone of _the brothers reported or spoke anything evil concerning you.
22 But we _are _considering _worthy to _hear from you what you _are _thinking, because/for indeed concerning the this sect it _is known to _us, that it _is _being _spoken _against everywhere.
23 And having _determined a_day for _him, more they _came to him to the lodging, to _whom he _was _explaining, testifying the kingdom of_ the _god, and persuading them concerning the Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa), from both the law of _Mōsaʸs/(Mosheh), and the prophets, from in _the _morning to evening.
24 And on _one _hand the ones were _being _persuaded by _the things being _spoken, on _the _other _hand the ones were _disbelieving.
25 And being discordant with one _another, they _were _sending _away, the Paulos having _spoken one final message:
that Rightly the the holy spirit spoke by Aʸsaias/(Yəshaˊə^yāh) the prophet to the fathers of _you _all 26 saying:
Be _gone to the this people, and say:
In _hearing you _all _will _be _hearing, and by _no _means you _all _may_ not _understand, and seeing you _all _will _be _seeing, and by _no _means you _all _may_ not _perceive.
27 For/Because the heart of_ the this _people was _become _dull, and they_ hardly _heard with _their ears and they _shut the eyes of _them, lest they _may _see with _their eyes, and they _may _hear with _their ears, and they _may _understand with _their heart, and they _may _turn _back, and I _will _be _healing them.
28 Therefore it _let _be known, to _you _all that this the salvation of_ the _god was _sent _out to _the pagans, and they will _be _hearing.
29  30 And He _remained _in two_ whole _years in ^his_own rental, and was _welcoming all the ones entering _in to him, 31 proclaiming the kingdom of_ the _god, and unhinderedly teaching the things concerning the master Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa) chosen _one /messiah, with all boldness.
