4:1 Peter and Yohan are threatened by the religious leaders

4 While Peter and Yohan were still talking to the people, the chief priests and a temple officer and some people from the Sadducee sect approached them 2 because they were very upset about what they had been teaching the people, including preaching that Yeshua could give life to the dead. 3 So they arrested the two, and as it was already evening, they put them in jail overnight. 4 Despite this, many people who had heard their message trusted in Yeshua and the number of families who were believers grew to around 5,000.

5 Then the next day, the religious leaders and the elders and the religious teachers gathered together in Yerusalem 6 along with those descended from high priests, including Annas the current high priest and Caiaphas and Yohan and Alexander. 7 After having Peter and Yohan brought in and standing them in the middle, they began to ask, “Under what authority did you do this?”

8 Then Peter, having been filled with the holy spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, 9 if we’re being questioned today about a good deed done to a man who couldn’t walk and which resulted in his healing, 10 then you all need to know, and the people of Israel should also know, that it was done under the authority and name of Yeshua the messiah. He was the man from Nazareth that you executed on a pole, but who God brought back to life. It was because of his authority that this man can now stand before you without deformity. 11 [ref]This Yeshua is:

‘the stone which was rejected by you builders,

has now become the vital cornerstone.’

12 We can’t be saved by anyone else, because there’s no other name or authority that’s been given in the entire world under which people can be saved.

13 The assembled leaders were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and Yohan who they knew to be illiterate, working-class men Then they recognised that they had been with Yeshua, 14 but since the man who was no longer deformed was standing there with them, there was nothing that they could really accuse them of. 15 So they had them removed from the room, and they asked each other, 16 “What should we do with these fellows? By now everyone in Yerusalem has heard about the miracle they did, and we have no way to rebuff it. 17 However, we have to stop it spreading even further, so maybe we should ban them from speaking about this name to anyone.” 18 So they called them back in and decreed that they weren’t allowed to preach or teach under the name of Yeshua anymore.

19 But Peter and Yohan answered, “You judge for yourselves whether it’s right in God’s eyes to listen to you rather than to him? 20 As for us, we’re not able to be silent about what we saw and heard.” 21 So after making some further threats, the leaders sent them off. They hadn’t been able to find anything to punish them for, because the people were all praising God for what had happened 22 and because the man who had miraculously recovered was over forty years old.

4 And of _them speaking to the people, the chief _priests, and the officer of _the temple, and the Saddoukaios_sect approached to _them, 2 being _thoroughly _disturbing because _of the thing them to _be _teaching to _the people, and to _be _proclaiming the resurrection in the Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa), which is from the_dead.
3 And they _laid_ their _on on _them hands, and they _put them in jail to the_ next _day, because/for it _was already evening.
4 But many the ones having _heard the message, believed and number of _the men was _become about five thousands.
5 And it _became on the_ next _day the rulers of _them, and the elders, and the scribes to _be _gathered _together in Hierousalaʸm/(Yərūshālayim), 6 and Annas the chief _priest, and Kaiafas, and Yōannaʸs, and Alexandros, and as _many _as were of chief _priestly descent.
7 And having _stood them in the midst, they _were _inquiring:
In what power or in what name you _all did this?
8 Then Petros having _been _filled with_the_ holy _spirit, said to them:
Rulers of _the people and elders, 9 if we today are _being _examined on a_good _work to_the_ sick _man, by what this one has _been _healed, 10 it _let _be known to _all you _all and to _all the people of _Israaʸl/(Yisərā^ʼēl), that in the name of_Yaʸsous chosen _one /messiah the from _Nazaret, whom you _all executed _on _a _stake, whom the god raised from the_dead, by this name this man has _stood _by before you _all healthy.
11 This one is the stone which having _been _scorned by you _all, the builders, which having _become to the_head of_the_corner.
12 And not _one the is not in other salvation, because/for there _is not another name under the heaven which having _been _given among people, by which it _is _fitting us to _be _saved.
13 And observing the boldness of_ the _Petros and of _Yōannaʸs, and having _grasped that they _are illiterate and ordinary men, they _were _marvelling, and they _were _recognizing them that they _were with the Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa).
14 And seeing the man having _stood with them, the one having _been _healed, they _were _having nothing to _speak _against them.
15 But having _commanded them to _go _away outside the council, they _were _conferring with one _another 16 saying:
What we _may _do to_ the these _men?
For/Because indeed that has _become a_known sign through them, to _all the ones dwelling _in Hierousalaʸm/(Yərūshālayim) is manifest, and we _are_ not _being _able to _be _disowning it.
17 But in _order _that may_ not _be _spread on more among the people, we _may _threaten to _them to_ no _longer _be _speaking in the this name to _no _one of_the_people.
18 And having _called them, they _commanded them not to _be _speaking nor to _be _teaching in the name of_ the _Yaʸsous at _all.
19 But the Petros and Yōannaʸs answering said to them:
Judge whether it _is right before the god, to _be _hearing from _you _all rather than the from_god.
20 For/Because we are_ not _being _able to _be_ not _speaking what we _saw and we _heard.
21 And they having _further _threatened them sent_ them _away, finding nothing which how they _may _punish them, because _of the people, because all were _glorifying the god for the thing having _become.
22 For/Because the man on whom this the sign of _the healing had _become was more years than forty.

4:23 The believers ask God for power

23 After Peter and Yohan had been released, they went to their own group and told them what the chief priests and elders had said. 24 [ref]When they all heard this, they began to pray out loud to God, saying, “Master, you created heaven and earth and the sea, and everything in them. 25 [ref]You spoke long ago by the holy spirit through our ancestor who was your servant, David, when you said,

‘Why are the other nations angry and why have their peoples tried new ideas?”

26 The earthly kings and rulers stood and worked together against the master and against his messiah.’

27 [ref]And indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met with the pagan Romans and the peoples of Israel to conspire against your holy servant Yeshua who you chose. 28 Then they did exactly what your power and plan had already decided would happen. 29 So now, master, see their threats and help us, your slaves, to be able to proclaim your message with boldness. 30 Let us experience your power to heal and do miracles and things that confirm the scriptures by means of the name and authority of your holy servant, Yeshua.”

31 As they finished their requests, the place where they had met was shaken and all of them were filled with the holy spirit, and they went out and boldly proclaimed God’s message.

23 And having _been _sent _away, they _came to their own, and they _reported as _much _as the chief _priests and the elders said to them.
24 And which having _heard, with _one _accord lifted _up ^their_voice to the god and said:
Master, you which having _made the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all the things in them, 25 the one of _the father of _us, by the_ holy _spirit of_the_mouth Dawid/(Dāvid) servant of _you having _said:
For/Because_ why _reason the_pagans raged, and peoples pondered vain things?
26 Standing _before the kings of _the earth and the rulers were _gathered _together with the themselves against the master, and against the chosen _one /messiah of _him.
27 For/Because both Haʸrōdaʸs and Pontios Pilatos were _gathered _together in truth in the this city with the_pagans and peoples of _Israaʸl/(Yisərā^ʼēl) against the holy servant of _you Yaʸsous/(Yəhōshūˊa), whom you _anointed, 28 to _do as _much _as the hand of _you, and the counsel of _you predetermined to _become.
29 And the things now, master, look _upon on the threats of _them, and give to _the slaves of _you, all to _be _speaking the of _you message with boldness, 30 in that the hand to _be _stretching _out to _you for healing, and signs, and wonders, to _be _becoming through the name of _the holy servant of _you, Yaʸsous.
31 And having _been _besought of _them, the place in which they _were having _been _gathered _together was _shaken, and all were _filled the holy spirit, and they _were _speaking the message of_ the _god with boldness.

4:32 The believers share their wealth and possessions

32 [ref]And so the group of believers were united in their will and attitude. No one claimed anything to be their own, but they shared everything they had. 33 The missionaries of the master, Yeshua, experienced great power and proclaimed the truth about how he came back to life, and God’s favour was with them. 34 None of them were lacking anything, because any of them who owned properties or houses would sell them and donate the proceeds. 35 They would lay them down in front of the missionaries, and from there it was distributed around according to what needs each person had.

36 Yosef (a Levite born in Cyprus who was nicknamed by the missionaries as ‘Barnabas’, meaning ‘Encourager’) was one who 37 owned a field which he sold, and brought the money and put it down in front of the missionaries.

32 And the multitude of _the ones having _believed, was one in _heart and soul, and and _not one anything of _the things possessing to _him was _saying to _be ^his_own, but was all things in _common to _them.

34 For/Because not _even any impoverished was among them, because/for as _many _as were _being owners of _properties or houses, selling them they _were _bringing the values of _the things being _sold, 35 and they _were _laying them before the feet of _the ambassadors, and it _was _being _distributed to _each, as _much _as wishfully anyone was _having need.
36 And Yōsaʸf/(Yōşēf) the one having _been _called Barnabas, by the ambassadors, which is being _translated:
son of _exhortation, a_Leuitaʸs /(from _tribe _of _Lēvī), a_from _Kupros the by _descent, 37 possessing by _him of_a_field, having _sold it brought the money and laid it before the feet of _the ambassadors.
