The Cost of Discipleship

The Cost of Discipleship

(Matthew 8:18–22, Luke 14:25–33, John 6:59–66)

As they were walking along the road, someone said to [Jesus],“Lord,[fn] I will follow You wherever You go.”

58

Jesus replied Foxes have dens and birds of the air [have] nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay [His] head.”

59

Then He said to another [man],“Follow Me.”

[The man] replied,“Lord,[fn] first let me go [and] bury my father.”

60

But Jesus told him,“Let the dead bury their own dead. You, however, go [and] proclaim the kingdom of God.”

61

Still another said,“I will follow You, Lord; but first let me bid farewell to my family.”

62

Then Jesus declared“No one who puts his hand to [the] plow and then looks vvv vvv back is fit for the kingdom of God.” 10
