Would-Be Followers of Jesus

57As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow yoʋ wherever yoʋ [fn]go, Lord.” 58Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 59Then Jesus said to another man, “Follow me.” But the man said, “[fn]Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 60Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead. But yoʋ go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” 61Still another said, “I will follow yoʋ, Lord, but first let me say goodbye to my family.” 62But Jesus said [fn]to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
