A Question About Fasting

A Question About Fasting

18Now the disciples of John and [fn]the disciples of the Pharisees were fasting. So some people came and said to Jesus, “Why is it that the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but yoʋr disciples do not fast?” 19Jesus said to them, “Can the bridegroom's attendants fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast. 20But the days are coming when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in [fn]those days.

21“No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. For [fn]the garment's new patch would pull away from the old cloth, and a worse tear would be made. 22And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the [fn]new wine would burst the wineskins; the wine would be [fn]spilled, and the wineskins would be ruined. But new wine [fn]must be put into new wineskins.”
