10 Jesus then rose from there and went to the region of [fn]Judea, traveling through the region beyond the Jordan, and crowds gathered around him again. And again he taught them, as he was accustomed to do.

2 Then [fn]some Pharisees came up to Jesus and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” 3 He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” 4 They said, “Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.” 5 But Jesus [fn]answered them, “Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. 6 But from the beginning of creation, God ‘made them male and female.’ 7 ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother [fn]and be joined to his wife, 8 and the two will become one flesh.’ So then, they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”

10 When they were back in the house, [fn]Jesus' disciples asked him about [fn]the same subject. 11 So he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her. 12 And if [fn]a woman divorces her husband and gets married to another, she commits adultery.”
