בִּירָה

Strong’s: A1001 · H1002 · H1003

Associated OET lemmas: בִּירָה · בִּירָנִיָּה

Other spellings: בִּירָנִית

Notes: Passages: OET CH1 29:1 · OET CH1 29:19 · OET NEH 2:8
The meaning of בִּירָה here is disputed. Since it is a building or a series of buildings לַיהוָה אֶלֹהִים the referent must be the temple or the temple area. RSV "palace" NIV "palatial structure" | NRSV NJPS CEV GNT "temple". NRSV has "temple" in the text and a note "Heb. fortress". Klein has "temple" | Braun "palace" (but with the sense of "temple", cf. note). Knoppers 944 has "citadel" and explains: "there is reason to believe that bîrâ refers here to a complex of buildings, including the Temple (J. Schwartz 1996: 29–49), rather than to a single structure".
