This is still a very early look into the unfinished text of the Open English Translation of the Bible. Please double-check the text in advance before using in public.
33 Ahiyyah’s son Baasha began to reign over Yisrael in the third year of King Asa’s reign over Yehudah, and he ruled from Tirtsah for twenty-four years. 34 He did what Yahweh had said was evil, similar to Nabat’s son Yarave’am’s behaviour and his sin that in turn, caused Yisrael to sin.
16 Then Yahweh told Hanani’s son Yehu to tell Baasha, 2 “I took a nobody and promoted you to leader over my people Yisrael, yet you followed Yarave’am’s behaviour and provoked me to anger by causing my people Yisrael to sin, 3 so now I’ll get rid of you and your family—I’ll do the same to you that I did to Yarave’am and his family. 4 The bodies of those in your family who die in the city will be eaten by dogs, and those who die in the countryside will be eaten by vultures.
5 Everything else that Baasha did is written in the book of the events of the kings of Yisrael. 6 When Baasha died he was buried in Tirtsah, and his son Elah replaced him as king.
7 Yahweh sent that message via Hanani the prophet’s son Yehu. It was for Baasha and his family—speaking against the evil that they’d done that had provoked Yahweh to get angry with their behaviour which was as bad as Yarave’am’s family had been. Yahweh was also angry with Baasha because he had killed all of Yarave’am’s family.
