BLB TIT

1Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of the elect of God and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness, 2in the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before time eternal 3and in His own seasons revealed in His word, in the proclamation with which I have been entrusted according to the commandment of God our Savior. 4To Titus, my true child according to our common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior. 5On account of this I left you in Crete, that you might set in order the things lacking and might appoint elders in every town, as I directed you, 6if anyone is blameless, the husband of one wife, having believing children, not under accusation of debauchery, or insubordinate. 7For it behooves the overseer to be blameless, as God's steward; not self-willed, not quick tempered, not given to wine, not a striker, not greedy of base gain, 8but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined; 9holding to the faithful word according to the teaching, that he may be able both to encourage with sound teaching and to convict those contradicting it. 10For there are also many insubordinate, empty talkers, and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, 11whom it is necessary to silence, who overthrow whole households, teaching things that they ought not for the sake of base gain. 12One of them, a prophet of their own, said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons." 13This testimony is true, for which cause rebuke them severely, so that they may be sound in the faith, 14not giving heed to Jewish myths and the commandments of men turning away from the truth. 15To the pure all things are pure; but to those being defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure. Instead, both their mind and conscience are defiled. 16They profess to know God, but in their works they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient and unfit for any good work. 2But you, speak the things that are consistent with the sound doctrine. 2The aged men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, in endurance; 3the aged women likewise reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not being enslaved to much wine, teachers of what is good, 4so that they may train the young women to be lovers of their husbands, loving their children, 5self-controlled, pure, keepers at home, kind, being subject to the own husbands, so that the word of God should not be maligned. 6Likewise, exhort the younger men to be self-controlled. 7In all things be holding forth yourself as a pattern of good works, in the teaching, integrity, dignity, 8and sound speech beyond reproach, so that he who is of the contrary may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say concerning us. 9Servants are to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not gainsaying, 10not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, so that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things. 11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, 12instructing us that, having denied ungodliness and worldly passions, we should live discreetly and righteously and piously in the present age, 13awaiting the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all lawlessness and might purify to Himself a people specially chosen, zealous of good works. 15Speak these things, and exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you. 3Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, 2to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, to be gentle, showing all humility toward all men. 3For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, being deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. 4But when the kindness and the love of mankind of God our Savior appeared, 5He saved us, not by works in righteousness that we did, but according to His mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6whom He poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7so that, having been justified by that grace, we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. 8Trustworthy is the saying, and I want you to affirm strongly concerning these things, so that those believing God may take care to be devoted to good works. These things are excellent and profitable to men. 9But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the Law; for they are unprofitable and worthless. 10Reject a factious man after one and a second admonition, 11knowing that such a man is corrupt and is sinning, being self-condemned. 12When I shall send Artemas or Tychicus to you, be diligent to come to me into Nicopolis; for I have decided to winter there. 13Earnestly equip Zenas the lawyer and Apollos, so that nothing should be lacking to them. 14And also let our people learn to devote themselves to good works for necessary needs, so that they should not be unfruitful. 15All those with me greet you. Greet those loving us in the faith. Grace be with all of you.
