1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the elect sojourners of the dispersion of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctification of the Spirit unto the obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: May grace and peace be multiplied to you. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the One according to His great mercy having begotten us again to a living hope, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ out from the dead, 4 to an inheritance imperishable and undefiled and unfading, being reserved in the heavens for you, 5 who are being guarded by the power of God through faith, for the salvation ready to be revealed in the last time, 6 in which you greatly rejoice, at present for a little while if it is being necessary, having been put to grief by various trials, 7 so that the proven genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold, perishing though being refined by fire, may be discovered to result in praise and glory and honor in the revelation of Jesus Christ, 8 whom not having seen you love, on whom now believing though not seeing you also exult with joy inexpressible and filled with glory, 9 receiving the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets sought out and searched out diligently, having prophesied of the grace toward you, 11 inquiring into what or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ in them was signifying, testifying beforehand of the sufferings of Christ and the glories after these, 12 to whom it was revealed that they were serving not themselves, but you, in those things which now have been proclaimed to you by those having proclaimed the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit having been sent from heaven, into which angels desire to look. 13 Therefore having girded up the loins of your mind, being sober-minded, set your hope fully upon the grace being brought to you in the revelation of Jesus Christ, 14 as children of obedience, not being conformed to the passions in your former ignorance. 15 But as the One having called you is holy, be holy yourselves also in all your conduct, 16 because it has been written: "You shall be holy, because I am holy." 17 And if you call on as Father the One judging impartially according to the work of each, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your sojourn, 18 knowing that you were redeemed from your futile manner of life handed down from your fathers, not by perishable things--by silver or by gold-- 19 but by the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot, 20 having been foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but having been revealed in the last times for the sake of you, 21 who by Him believe in God, the one having raised Him up out from the dead and having given Him glory, so as for your faith and hope to be in God. 22 Having purified your souls in obedience to the truth unto sincere brotherly love, love one another fervently, out of a pure heart, 23 having been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, by the living and abiding word of God, 24 because, "All flesh is like grass, and all the glory of it like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls away, 25 but the word of the Lord abides to the age." And this is the word having been proclaimed to you. 2 Therefore having put aside all malice, and all deceit, and hypocrisy, and envies, and all evil speakings, 2 like newborn babies, crave pure reasonable milk, so that by it you may grow up in respect to salvation, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. 4 Coming to Him, a living stone, indeed rejected by men, but chosen and precious in the sight of God, 5 you yourselves also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house into a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 Therefore it is contained in Scripture: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone, a chosen precious cornerstone; and the one believing on Him, shall not be put to shame." 7 Therefore the preciousness is to you believing. But to those disobeying, "The stone which those building have rejected, this has become into the head of the corner," 8 and, "A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense." They stumble at being disobedient to the word, to which also they were appointed. 9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of the One having called you out of darkness into His marvelous light, 10 who once were not a people, but now are the people of God; those not having received mercy, but now having received mercy. 11 Beloved, I exhort you as aliens and sojourners, to abstain from fleshly desires, which war against the soul, 12 keeping your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that wherein which they speak against you as evildoers, through having witnessed the good deeds, they may glorify God in the day of visitation. 13 Be in subjection to every human institution for the sake of the Lord, whether to the king as being supreme, 14 or to governors as being sent by him for vengeance to evildoers and praise to well-doers, 15 because the will of God is this: doing good, to put to silence the ignorance of foolish men, 16 as free, and not having the freedom as a cover-up for evil, but as servants of God. 17 Honor everyone: love the brotherhood, fear God, Honor the king. 18 Servants, be subject to masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the unreasonable. 19 For this is acceptable, if for sake of conscience toward God, anyone endures griefs, suffering unjustly. 20 For what kind of credit is it, if sinning and being struck, you shall endure? But if you shall endure doing good and suffering, this is commendable before God. 21 For to this hereunto you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow after His steps: 22 "Who committed no sin, neither was deceit found in His mouth." 23 Who being reviled did not retaliate; suffering did not threaten, but He gave Himself over to Him judging justly. 24 Who Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that, having been dead to sins, we might live to righteousness. "By whose scourge marks you have been healed." 25 For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. 3 Likewise wives, be subject to the own husbands so that, even if any are disobedient to the word, they will be won over without word by the conduct of the wives, 2 having witnessed your respectful, pure conduct, 3 whose adorning let not be the external, of braiding of hair and putting around of gold, or putting on of garments, 4 but the hidden man of the heart, in the imperishable of the gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth before God. 5 For in this way formerly, the holy women also hoping in God used to adorn themselves, being subject to the own husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, of whom you have become children, doing good and not fearing any consternation. 7 Husbands do likewise, dwelling with them according to knowledge, as with a weaker vessel, with the female, rendering honor as joint-heirs also of the grace of life, so as for your prayers not to be hindered. 8 Now the end: All be single-minded, sympathetic, loving as brothers, tender-hearted, humble, 9 not repaying evil for evil or insult for insult; but on the contrary blessing, because to this you were called, so that you should inherit blessing. 10 For, "The one desiring to love life, and to see good days, let him keep the tongue from evil, and lips not to speak deceit. 11 Also let him turn away from evil, and let him do good. Let him seek peace and let him pursue it. 12 Because the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears toward their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those doing evil." 13 And who is he who will harm you, if you should be zealous for that which is good? 14 But even if you should suffer because of righteousness, you are blessed. "And you should not be afraid of their threats, neither should you be troubled." 15 But in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord, always ready for a defense to everyone asking you an account concerning the hope in you; yet with gentleness and fear, 16 having a good conscience, so that in the case that they might speak against you, those reviling your good manner of life in Christ, they shall be ashamed. 17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if the will of God wills it, than doing evil, 18 because Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, so that He might bring you to God, having been put to death indeed in the flesh, but having been made alive in the spirit, 19 in which also having gone, He preached to the spirits in prison 20 at one time having disobeyed, when the longsuffering of God was waiting in the days of Noah, of the ark being prepared, in which a few--that is, eight souls--were saved through water, 21 which also prefigures the baptism now saving you, not a putting away of the filth of flesh, but the demand of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, angels and authorities and powers having been subjected to Him. 4 Therefore Christ having suffered in the flesh, you also arm yourselves with the same mind, because the one having suffered in the flesh is done with sin, 2 so as to live the remaining time in the flesh no longer to men's desires, but to the will of God. 3 For the time past is sufficient to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having walked in sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and abominable idolatries. 4 With respect to this, they think it strange of you not running with them into the same overflow of debauchery, speaking evil of you, 5 who will give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 6 For to this end the gospel was proclaimed even to the dead, so that they might be judged indeed according to men in the flesh, but they might live in the spirit according to God. 7 Now the end of all has drawn near. Therefore be clear-minded and be sober for the purpose of prayers, 8 above all things, having fervent love among yourselves, because love covers over a multitude of sins, 9 hospitable to one another without complaint, 10 as each has received a gift, to them serving each other as good stewards of the manifold grace of God: 11 if anyone speaks, as oracles of God; if anyone serves, as of strength which God supplies, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory and the power to the ages of the ages. Amen. 12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fire among you taking place for a trial to you, as if a strange thing were happening to you. 13 But as you have shared in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, so that also in the revelation of His glory you may rejoice, exulting. 14 If you are insulted in the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. 15 For let not any of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evildoer, or as a troublesome meddler, 16 but if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this name. 17 For it is the time for the judgment to have begun from the house of God; and if from us first, what will be the outcome of those disobeying the gospel of God? 18 And, "If the righteous one is saved with difficulty, where will appear the ungodly and sinner?" 19 Therefore also, those suffering according to the will of God, let them commit their souls to the faithful Creator in well-doing. 5 I exhort the elders among you, a fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, who am also a partaker of the glory being about to be revealed: 2 Shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but willingly according to God; and not for base gain but eagerly, 3 not as exercising lordship over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. 4 And the Chief Shepherd having been revealed, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. 5 Likewise, younger ones, be subject to your elders. And all, gird on humility one to another, because, "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." 6 Be humbled therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time, 7 having cast all your anxiety upon Him, because with Him there is care about you. 8 Be sober-minded; watch. Your adversary the devil prowls about as a roaring lion seeking whom to devour, 9 whom you should resist, firm in the faith, knowing the same sufferings to be accomplished in your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And the God of all grace, the One having called you to His eternal glory in Christ, of you having suffered a little while, He Himself will perfect, will confirm, will strengthen, and will establish you. 11 To Him be the power to the ages of the ages. Amen. 12 Through Silvanus, the faithful brother as I regard him, I have written to you through few words, exhorting and testifying this to be the true grace of God, in which you stand. 13 She in Babylon elected with you greets you, and my son Mark. 14 Greet one another with a kiss of love.
