54 O God, help me with thy might,

as thou art strong, uphold my right;

2 O God, hear my prayer,

and listen to my plea.

3 Proud creatures are assailing me,

and ruthless men would murder me,

men who care nothing for God.

4 Ah, God my helper,

ah, Lord, upholder of my life,

5 may evil recoil upon my foes!

O Lord, be true to me and crush them!

6 Then gladly will I sacrifice to thee,

with praise for all thy goodness,

7 when thou hast rescued me from all my woes,

and let me feast mine eyes on my defeated foes.
