28:0 Prayer of requesting
28 A song by David.
28 Yahweh, I call out to you for help, my rock of safety.
Don’t refuse to hear me
because if you’re silent, I’ll soon be with those who’re heading down to their graves.
2 Hear my pleading when I call for help from you—
when I raise my hands toward your most sacred room.
3 Don’t drag me away along with the wicked—those who do evil things,
who talk about peace with their neighbours but have evil plans in their minds.
4 Give them what their actions deserve
≈and repay them what their wickedness demands.
Repay them what they’ve done
≈and give them what they deserve.
5 Because they don’t understand what Yahweh does,
he’ll tear them down and never rebuild them.
because he’s heard my requests.
7 Yahweh makes me strong and protects me like a shield.
I trust in him, and he helps me.
That’s why I’m so happy inside,
and I’ll praise him by singing.
8 Yahweh gives strength to his people,
and he is the place of safety for his anointed one.
9 Rescue your people
≈and bless your inheritance.
Be their shepherd and carry them always.
