The New Heaven and the New Earth

21 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 [fn]I also saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from [fn]heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with [fn]them. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more, and there will no longer be mourning, crying, or [fn]pain, for the former things have passed away.”

5 Then he who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And he said [fn]to me, “Write this down, for these [fn]words are true and trustworthy.” 6 He also said to me, “[fn]I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To him who thirsts I will freely give from the spring of the water of life. 7 [fn]He who overcomes will inherit these things; I will be his God, and [fn]he will be my son. 8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, [fn]the sinful, the detestable, the murderers, the fornicators, the sorcerers, the idolaters, and all liars, their portion is in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
