The Day of the Lord
5 Now concerning the times and seasons, brothers, you have no need for anything to be written to you. 2 For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 When people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come upon them suddenly, like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will certainly not escape. 4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should catch you like [fn]a thief. 5 [fn]You are all sons of light and sons of the day; we are not of the night or of the darkness. 6 So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us be watchful and sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night; and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8 But since [fn]we are of the day, let us be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 9 For God has not appointed us to suffer wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live together with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, even as you are doing.
