The Levites’ settlements

6:54 The Levites’ settlements

54Here’s a list of places where Aharon’s descendants lived. Kohat’s descendants were the first to be allotted property. 55They were given the city of Hevron in Yehudah (Judah) and the surrounding pastureland, 56except that Kalev (Caleb) received the fields farther from the city and the villages around the city. (Kalev was Yefunneh’s son.) 57Those descendants of Aharon were given Hevron (a refuge city), as well as these towns and their nearby pastureland: Libnah, Yattir, Eshtemoa, 58Hilez, Devir, 59Ashan, and Beyt-Shemesh. 60From the Benyamin tribe, they received the cities of Geba, Alemet, and Anatot and their pasturelands. Altogether those Kohatite clans received thirteen cities, 61and the remaining Kohatite clans received ten cities from the clans of the Menashsheh tribe.

62The clans of Gershon’s descendants received thirteen cities from the tribes of Yissakar (Issachar), Asher, Naftali, and the part of the Menashsheh tribe that lived in the Bashan region across the Yordan River. 63The clans of Merari’s descendants received twelve cities from the tribes of Reuven, Gad, and Zevulun. 64The Israeli leaders allotted those towns and the nearby pasturelands to the Levites. 65They also allotted them the cities from the tribes of Yehudah, Shimeon, and Benyamin that were listed above. 66Some of Kohat’s descendants received cities from the Efrayim tribe. 67They also gave them these cities with the surrounding pasturelands: Shekem (a refuge city), Gezer, 68Yokmeam, Beyt-Horon, 69Ayyalon, and Gat-Rimmon. 70Kohat’s other descendants received the cities of Aner and Bileam and the nearby pastureland from the half-tribe of Menashsheh (that lives west of the Yordan River).

71Gershon’s descendants also received, from the part of the Menashsheh tribe that lived across the Yordan River, two cities and pastureland near them: Golan in the Bashan region, and Ashtarot.

72From the Yissakar (Issachar) tribe they received these cities and their nearby pastureland: Kedesh, Daverat, 73Ramot, and Anem. 74From the Asher tribe they received these cities and their nearby pastureland: Mashal, Abdon, 75Hukok, and Rehob.

76From the Naftali tribe they received these cities and their nearby pastureland: Kedesh (in the Galilee region), Hammon, and Kiryatayim.

77Merari’s descendants received these cities and their nearby pasturelands from the Zevulun tribe: Rimmono and Tabor.

78From the Reuven tribe across the Yordan River (opposite Yereho), they were allotted these cities and towns and and their nearby pastureland: Betser in the wilderness, Yahtsah, 79Kedemot, and Mefaat.

80From the Gad tribe, they received these cities and their nearby pastureland: Ramot in the Gilead region, Mahanayim, 81Heshbon, and Yazer.
