Ps 48 This song of Zion (see also Pss 46, 76, 87, 122) explicitly views Jerusalem (Zion) as the city of the Great King where the godly find protection (48:1-3). God rules from Zion in faithfulness, righteousness, and justice, and he inspires his subjects with confidence and joy (48:9-11). They commit themselves to seeing the glory of Zion for themselves so that they can tell the next generation about it (48:8, 12-14).
Beautiful in elevation
(Some words not found in UHB: big/great YHWH and, praised very in/on/at/with,city God,our mountain holy, his )
“Beautiful and high.” The word “elevation” refers to how high mount Zion is.

the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Zion
(Some words not found in UHB: big/great YHWH and, praised very in/on/at/with,city God,our mountain holy, his )
Here the word “earth” refers to everyone living on the earth. The word “joy” may be translated as a verb. Alternate translation: “Mount Zion gives joy to everyone on earth” or “everyone on earth rejoices because of Mount Zion” (See also: figs-abstractnouns)
on the sides of the north
(Some words not found in UHB: big/great YHWH and, praised very in/on/at/with,city God,our mountain holy, his )
Possible meanings are that this phrase: (1) refers to the direction of the north or (2) is another name for Mount Zion meaning “the mountain of God.”
