OET (OET-LV)I_am_speaking what I have_seen with the father, therefore also you_all you_all_are_doing what you_all_heard with your father.

OET (OET-RV)Indeed I talk about what I’ve actually seen with the father, but you all are doing what you’ve heard from your father.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: guidelines-sonofgodprinciples

τῷ Πατρὶ

the Father

Father is an important title for God.

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / extrainfo

καὶ ὑμεῖς & ἃ ἠκούσατε παρὰ τοῦ πατρὸς, ποιεῖτε

also you_all & what ˱you_all˲_heard with your father ˱you_all˲_/are/_doing

In this clause, Jesus uses the phrase the father to refer to the devil. Despite using the same words as in the previous clause, here Jesus is not referring to God. However, since Jesus did not yet reveal what he meant when he used this phrase, but was speaking ambiguously, you do not need to explain its meaning further here.

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

8:12-59 The debate about whether or not Jesus is the Messiah continues from 7:52. Jesus was still at the Festival of Shelters in Jerusalem. During the festival, the conflicts Jesus had endured in ch 7 continued and intensified.

OET (OET-RV)Indeed I talk about what I’ve actually seen with the father, but you all are doing what you’ve heard from your father.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Greek words that they’re translated from.
