OET (OET-LV)Therefore the Youdaiōns said to him, you_are_ not_yet _having fifty years, and you_have_seen?
Abraʼam

OET (OET-RV) Because of that, the Jewish leaders asked, “You aren’t even fifty years old yet. How could you have seen Abraham?”[fn]

8:57 Abraham lived some 2,000 years before Yeshua.

uW Translation Notes:

Note 1 topic: figures-of-speech / synecdoche

οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι

the Jews

See how you translated the Jews in 8:31. Alternate translation: “the Judeans” or “the Jewish leaders”

Note 2 topic: figures-of-speech / rquestion

πεντήκοντα ἔτη οὔπω ἔχεις, καὶ Ἀβραὰμ ἑώρακας?

fifty years not_yet ˱you˲_/are/_having and Abraham ˱you˲_/have/_seen

Here, the Jews opposing Jesus are using this question to express their shock that Jesus claims to have seen Abraham. If you would not use a rhetorical question for this purpose in your language, you could translate these words as a statement or an exclamation and communicate the emphasis in another way. Alternate translation: “You are less than fifty years old! You could not possibly have seen Abraham!”

TSN Tyndale Study Notes:

8:57 You aren’t even fifty years old: The Jewish leaders misunderstood Jesus: He was talking about his divine pre-existence, not his physical age.

8:57 Abraham lived some 2,000 years before Yeshua.

Note: The OET-RV is still only a first draft, and so far only a few words have been (mostly automatically) matched to the Greek words that they’re translated from.
